Turbo 350 yoke slop at trans

Ok I had a new shaft made for my 56 and the shaft in the trans has some very minor slop---such as at 2.5 inches out I can jiggle it maybe 1/16 or so--this is with the shaft is sitting in the rearend and in the trans with a longer than usual yoke--is this ok or as one suggested pack it with heavy grease and drive it-----comments?

This is pretty normal. They generally have a little play back there. If it gets too much or the seal starts leaking you can put a new bushing in the housing.

Re: Turbo 350 yoke slop at trans

Sorry pictures are low quality. I take them with my phone while I'm working in the shop.

Turbo 350 rear seal

Rear bushing

Seal ring for extension housing

Remove extension housing and clean it up. Then remove rear seal and change the bushing.

Install new rear seal

Don't forget the new seal ring on the extension housing.

All told, about 10-15 dollars in parts and half an hour or so of work. Now it will be all tight and leak free for years to come.

As Kevin said, Put a bushing in it, This will prolong the life of the output carrier bushing (Case Bushing). Check the yoke as well, More than .005 wear will tear up the new bushing.

GM introduced a Teflon extension housing bushing in '98 for the 4L60E. It is backward compatible with the TH350, I highly recommend them for all TH350's http://www.ebay.com/itm/REAR-EXTENSI...p2054897.l4275
