Tires / Wheels - Wide vs Narrow - Tall vs Low.

I always search before starting a thread, but even Google didn't quite find me what I was looking for.
.
I would guess Taller would be a softer/better ride than shorter tires. I would guess wider might give better stopping in certain situations because of more surface area. But then I could see where wider might be worse in rain or snow.
I'm just trying to figure what advantages one has over another or visa-versa.
Looks aside. Preferences aside -
What's really better and for what?
Short and wide? Tall and Narrow? Or What?

Oh, also,
I wasn't sure if 'Suspension' was the best place for this thread either.

Re: Tires / Wheels - Wide vs Narrow - Tall vs Low.

I would go with tall and semi wide tires,Winter i would park the truck or run a set of snow tires on it.
