67 GMC steering wheel nut.. what size?

Just trying to pull my steering wheel off so I can smooth out the dash and I can't find a socket that fits the jam nut in the center of the wheel? Anyone know off hand what size socket I would need? Do i need to use a puller to get it off? Help...newbie in need.

Its a 1/2 inch nut. After that is loose I wouldn't take the nut off all the way until you get the wheel loose from the steering shaft in the column. And yes I'd recommend a steering wheel puller. Don't want the wheel coming back and hitting you.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. The nut is definitely bigger than 1/2". I tried a 3/4" socket and it was close. (talking outside diameter). Not really sure about it and don't want to strip it. Need the wheel off to smooth the dash and restore the wheel.

When I first couldn't find the correct socket I just grabbed a ton of sockets and wrenches until I found the correct size. Hopefully you can get the right size.

*UPDATE*

I just went outside to my toolbox and I looked at the size of the socket I use and its a 19 and it sounds like its exactly what yours might be.
