What use of buzz words makes you go... hmm?

I'm starting my search for a new 67-72 so I've been looking around quite a bit. The more I look and call the more baffled I am about what some words mean to people.

Checked out a truck on CL.... "fully restored" is the phrase used. Well, it was fully restored.... in 1992!

"Rot in only 3 places" okay, challenge accepted. Both cab corners, floor, rockers, fenders, hood, and tool box; all see-through rotted. Bad rust and scaling on the inside of the roof, inner fenders, bottom of the core support and inside bed corners.

Lets do his math:
1. Entire bed
2. Entire cab
3. Entire front clip

Only 3 places!

I absolutely love the hunt for a new truck, but talking with people seemed easier a few years ago. When I bought my first truck I politely corrected a few people on misinformation to try and help them represent the trucks more honestly and have a better chance at selling. Now I just, "uh huh" the owners as they rattle on while I inspect the vehicles.

What crazy stuff have you guys heard?

Re: What use of buzz words makes you go... hmm?

My favorite? How about "original miles"? Almost always under 100,000 miles for a vehicle that only registers to 99,999.9. There seem to be tons of these trucks advertised that way. Let's face it, these trucks were mostly sold do work, be driven all year in all conditions and have been on the road 45 years or longer. That's not to say there aren't some legitimate low mile examples. I am skeptical of any of the claims without documentation or exceptional original condition.

I was thinking:
Top
Bottom
Middle

That is funny

"one owner"
"ran when parked"
"rebuilt engine and tranny"
"rare"
"rust free"
"just needs _______ to run again" (insert battery, tune up, etc.)
"selling for a poor widow friend of mine"
"BARN FIND!"

And the list goes on and on....

Because it used to be that guys in general had somewhat of a general knowledge of how cars worked and a father taught his son (and even daughters) how to maintain a car. Since fuel injection became mainstream there's almost no need to even open the hood. I owned a 2000 Z71 for 11 years (bought when it was 5 years old) that NEVER had any underhood parts fail. Never needed ANY kind of "tuning." I changed the plugs/wires and pulley belt ONCE, installed a K&N filter I cleaned every year or two, and sold it with 185K on it.

So that means you have almost 2 generations now that literally know next to nothing about cars, but want to "own a cool old truck" or it was handed down to them, etc, but they came to the realization they know absolute jack squat about cars and put it up for sale.

*This is an over generalization* but I feel it to be true overall.

I looked at over 30 1965-68 Mustangs about 5 years ago and found that the VAST majority of their owners knew almost next to nothing about the car. I even test drove one where the owner didn't know how to operate the factory air system, I had to show them...

Re: What use of buzz words makes you go... hmm?

Barn Find and Original Miles always.

Years a go i had a 71 3/4 ton that I had owned since 1979. When I got the truck it had about 15k on the speedo and the receipts in the glove box confirmed that it was 215K. I sold the truck in 1998. The speedo said 55k something. I know that it had also flipped around 2 more times. So... 455k+

I think the classic I love the best is "AC works just needs a recharge".

My favorite... "All numbers matching... and Not original motor" all in the same sentence. Hey, either numbers match or they don't. Kind of like being pregnant. You either are or you aren't.

"These trucks/cars go for big money when restored"

(but the seller is already trying to sell the beat up hull for the 'big money' restored price)

Re: What use of buzz words makes you go... hmm?

There is a bunch of U-tube videos about these two guys with a red and white long bed beater C10 with a serious amount of horsepower. They go around street racing folks and call the truck"Farm Truck". It's an interweb thing.

Here in the north/east we always read, "Came from the south/west or California truck". After checking the truck out, it must have came here in the 70's. Title says California, rust says Pennsylvania.
