Question MI: Engine numbers

Have a 69 C/10 with a tired 250. Went looking for a 292 to rebuild. I've found one and started disassembly and wondering exactly what I have. Only number on the block is 3851659 and it is the same number under the manifold and on the rear above the starter. On the pad by the distributor it is blank, looks like never a number there, maybe a replacement block? It is painted green, maybe an early (63-66) block? The head has the # 4435F24 vertically on the passenger side between the plug holes. I suppose I could put any number I wanted on the pad by the dist., right
