67 truck info stuff

I'm learning alot on early trucks. My 67, has some of the oddities.
Park lights turn off with head lights on. Has small window.
Bench seat folds forward, but needs to be restored, covered.
I was able to get a 70 bench seat ..in good condition.

Have a nice trans I swapped for a TH400.
Real 4 speed. . Excellent working trans.
Have bell housing for X member...67 GMC. V6 eng opt.

I need to fix windshield washer hose, and pump.

Re: 67 truck info stuff

I had a 67 I bought to part out, it was a runner all street legal. At the time I thought it was too rusty, today I know it wasn’t that bad. Anyway I took what I wanted and parted out the rest cheap, people that bought stuff from me seemed extra happy. I had no idea the parts were 67 only and being harder to get had a higher value … oh well =)

Other items was the frame is wider than 68-up. To fit BBC. Need to trim for manifolds.

I'm wanting to install a sliding rear window for small window. Not finding any?

67 is driving great with BBC and TH400 hd. Looking at a Gear Vendor Overdrive system.....might be the key to driving miles...

Re: 67 truck info stuff

On a stock 396 with 4:11 gears (3/4T) an overdrive changed my mileage from 10 to 13 on the highway. A 33% increase! No much difference in town. However the difference in the sound level in the cab made it worth it. I don't believe you could add enough insulation to make the same difference the reduced rpm of the motor made.

Re: 67 truck info stuff

Your right....my BBC gets loud at 60mph.
I like the mileage increase.

I was told you can tow with the GVOD.... not so much with 700R4

Re: 67 truck info stuff

Depends on your towing style and weight.
I have a Silverado and tow a lot.
Yes, I even tow in overdrive if the load isn't too heavy or the frontal area huge.
In my case the frontal area makes a bigger difference than the weight.
Frankly I don't know where the "can't tow with a 4L60 or a 4L60E comes from.
GM has had towing specification for them all from the inception of the 4L60 in 1982.
I am confident 100 of millions of miles have driven while towing with the 4L60 and it's derivatives.
I had 5000 lbs of rock in my 3/4 ton, BBC with 4l60, (back in the day when these truck were workhorses) and backed up a steep driveway that required almost full throttle to climb with the load.
Possibly it was the 1982-1986 4L60 transmissions that were problematic.
I recommend staying away from the early models. The 1987 and up are fine transmissions and will take quite the load. Keep the oil changed as the bushing are considerable smaller than say the THM400. Dirty oil exasperates the busing wear. Keep it cool and you will likely not have any issues.

Re: 67 truck info stuff

I used to run a 454 BBC in a '67 K/10 Suburban. Had a TH350/NP205/3.73 Posi 12-bolt rear. All drum brakes.
Whole hood shook like a GoGo Girl above 70. Passed anything on the freeway but a Chevron station.
Fred Flintstone brakes, though. [Select softer target]
Had a carb fire in '98 and towed it home. Insurance totalled it on me. It's been sitting.

Someday White Fang will rise again.

What's '67-only on a GMC C1500 like you have is GMC stamped into the grille and no letters on the front of the hood. Also, no fender emblems unless an optional trim level. Those fender emblems are one year only. In Customs and Super Customs the vinyl door panels have horizontal pleats compared to Chevy's vertical pleats. Can't recall if '68s do as well, but it's an early GMC-only thing. '67 is the only year of this series to get a 283, last year for that engine.

I never heard "can't tow" but I've heard can't, or don't, tow in overdrive. Where that comes from is GM. My '95 K2500 Suburban with 4L80E has a warning sticker on the inner edge of the driver door.

It's true, towing in O/D depends on weight and style of driving. I think the warning, if the population was more mechanically oriented, should say "Be aware that towing in O/D requires special attention and methods..... blah blah"

I tow in O/D in the '95 w/4L80E and I towed in my '85 Jimmy w/700r4 (w/35" tires). I had a 4L80E to swap into the Jimmy but after running with original 700r4 it didn't seem necessary.

Re: 67 truck info stuff

Thx. GETR Done.

I have a lot of the original items. You don't notice these until you look close.
Mine has no radio, heater controls I kinda fixed by riveting controls to face plate.
Now my heater works great.

67 frame is also unique...wider.

My fender emblem is square, rectangle says Custom.

Re: 67 truck info stuff

I tow with the tow button.. 2016 2500HD 2WD it goes into OD only above 63ish mph, shift points are adjusted. I have a Ford chassis...in a RV...towing car, trailer.. trans temp guage in middle. Click in tow mode.... Temp drops significantly. Just an FYI.

Hard to attach photos....all other forums have a quick click upload button. HAMB used to be like this, but got upgraded years back.

Re: 67 truck info stuff

Posting pix is slow. Sometimes to make multiple images, I have to go thru Edit for each one. Then if I have not restarted my laptop in a while, Manage Attachments pops into another unusable window.

Huh! Hell must've frozen over recently because it worked fine this time...
