Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
We couldn't wait to start this thing. No radiator, no exhaust.... we STILL had to get her running...... The new gauges sprang to life.....

I ordered the core support through Summit Racing. It is a Goodmark product (may get it a little cheaper direct from them ????) the Part number is : Goodmark Radiator Core Supports 4143-320-69 It's a QUALITY piece... Matches up perfectly. |
Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
FINALLY got the helper springs off. Stopped just short of burning them off. MUCH PB Blaster and persuasion with the BFH and threats of CUTTING the bolts off. We finally prevailed !
The truck drove through the neighborhood with open headers on Saturday. All seems to check out. Need to get the exhaust on and the hood back on, then we can work on lowering it etc. |
Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
Big Day, taking the '71 to have the exhaust done. Split manifold dual headers, been wanting this build for years. Hope I'm not disappointed. Photos to come once I bring her home from the muffler shop.

Gus 350, I LOVE the Ron Francis kits. This is the fourth vehicle I have wired with Ron Francis and as for me personally, there is none better.

Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
Nice job on the motor..Love it! glade to see you stay with the six.
Do you have the part # for the Power Steering Conversion kit? |
Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
Rich 916 I used the CPP Power steering box (500 series I believe) plus the pump hoses and reservoir. I have in my notes 796.40 for the whole outfit. (May have been a couple other pieces parts in there too).
Best bet is give them a call and tell em what you have. I can say, it makes ALL the difference !! Here's a link: http://www.classicperform.com/tech_a...steer-this.htm |
Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
Now THIS is a steering wheel !!!:
http://wvstreetrods.com/Wow/images/15-TUR-SILVER-1.jpg Just got the new Steering Wheel last night ! I'll install it this weekend. |
Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
On bringing the 71 home from the exhaust shop my new Classic Instruments spedometer stopped working. I checked the wiring to be sure the exhaust shop didn't fry the wires etc, then called Classic Instruments and they tell me I have to run an SN74 box is I'm running VSS. I had everything wired directly, and it all worked for 27 miles. Classic says this can happen, but need the SN74. I've now ordered said SN-74 but am curious if anyone is running Classic Instrument VSS Speedo without the SN-74

Finally mounted the steering wheel. Got the new dash pad, and actually had to paint it as the only GREEN dash pads I found were the 'Olive' green.
Also note the new brake pedal (converted from 3 on the tree, and the new Torque converter lockout switch. Installed new 700R4 http://wvstreetrods.com/images/steeringwheel25.jpg |

Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
Just returned from the Street Rod Nationals in Louisville where I ordered my wheels and tires for the '71. Ordered the C5 Gun Metal from COY wheels. Working with Danny and others we decided on 17 x 8 on front with 235 x 55 R17s and 18 x 9.5 rear with 255 x 55 R18s. Besides the 4/6 drop should give me a nice wheel/rubber stagger 27.1 front and 28.6 rear.
Should get them in 2 weeks. Will post pics after. |
