Alright, I didn't get much done this weekend due to a minor leg injury, but I DID get the truck moved over closer to the working garage. I noticed a few things I had subconsciously planned on but now they are FOR SURE.

New Wiring harness and complete instrumentation package.

Since it is a basic TRUCK, there's Speedo, Fuel, and idiot lights. I had thought I would be re wiring the truck in my original plan since I intend to add A/C etc. I am accustomed to having the full gauge package, water, fuel, volts, speed, tach etc. So looks like I'll be sourcing new gauges too.

I'll order a new Ron Francis wiring kit this morning......

I like it.

Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside

Things sure tend to daisy chain when I start one of these projects. Planned to rewire the whole truck, so ordered the Ron Francis wiring kit, which forced me to examine the Alternator and will change from external regulator to Internal. Moving from 3-speed column shift to 700R4 floor shift causes removing original column to ordering an Ididit column. Going to HEI with internal coil.

Today is a big day, I'm actually moving the truck in to my working garage where I have a lift and can soon actually start spinning some wrenches. Most parts are ordered, some are already here. Should have a couple months of winter to attack the mechanical/electrical aspects of this build. I'll start adding photos as I get started in the garage today.

Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside

Well, since I'm rewiring the whole truck, I had choices of which way to go at the instrument panel. Mine, being a basic "TRUCK" only has the three hole bezel, 5" Speedo, 3 3/8" blank and a 5" fuel gauge.

Just ordered these little babies :) (Speedo I ordered doesn't have the tach included, it will be separate)

For the center hole I ordered a 3 3/8 Tach:

Getting it cleaned up and prepped, then the ECE 6" drop in the rear.

Even though it's basically a stripper, being a 71, you've got disc brakes!!!

All you will have to do is maintain it , not all the swapping headaches to get it converted!!

Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside

yeah..... thats a GOOD thing. However, I am adding POWER to the disc brakes and POWER steering. Also, going to a 700R4 from the 3 on the tree.

Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside

Well, today was going to be a big "Get Started" Day for the '71. Parts accumulation has been going well......Lower front 4" and rear 6", install 700R4 with floor shift, Power brakes, power steering, rewire the truck, install Clifford intake Holley 390 carb and Clifford headers.....

I was going to turn the truck around on the lift in the working garage, but there is still a 3" sheet of ice in front of the working garage from last weeks, snow event, so I cant move it til later this week.

I have seen a factory overload, the leaf contacted a pad behind where the axle bolts to the control arm, there was a rubber pad/snubber where it made comtact.

I have also seen what I think was an aftermarket add on leaf, it had a rubber pad on the end of the leaf and contacted the top of the axle tube, factory set up looked like the better way to go....

Got home Monday and turned her around...... Ron Francis wiring kit also arrived Monday evening.

http://wvstreetrods.com/Wow/images/headin.jpg

Almost ready to start dis assembly. Wiring, Power steering and 700R4 with floor mount shifter and new Ididit column...... all sort of intertwined seems the best starting point.
