Dusted off the old tools... (Sub box build) 1980 stepper
So I priced a few places for a sub box behind my seat.. got a $1000 bid and a few $800's Might be fair, but more than I was gonna pay.. So the old tools got dusted off.. This is my first (so take it easy, master box builders.. lol...) sub box build and behind these seats are kinda of a pain... But I had help... http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...56789/BOX4.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...56789/BOX2.jpg I cut 4 dividers and wanted to make sure the were all the same, so I sanded them at one time to make sure they were all even.. http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...56789/BOX3.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...56789/BOX1.jpg It's hard to tell but I added a second piece of wood in side the amp rack at an angle up to fill the void and point the Amp up a little.. http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...56789/BOX5.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...456789/BOX.jpg I still have to fiberglass a frame for the corners, I want to fill the rounded edges and add my 6x9's... Then I'm going to fiberglass the whole front, try and get it to mold to the truck.. then paint... I've only touched fiberglass once before so will see how it goes.. lol.. side note: took about 4 hours. Used a table saw, miter saw, sander, router (first time using it.. real cool tool) and a nail gun.. I went a little over board and went for two 12's... they call for .5 - 1 of air.. these ended at .63 I'll throw in some poly-fill and hope for the best... I didn't recess the subs, One I had enough room not to and I was trying to get every bit of air space I could.. I'll post some more when I get time to finish... . |

How do you plan on attaching the box to the cab? Or are you going to just let it sit there?

nice box almsot similar to mine. My box is held in with compression. I put two angles 6x9 boxes next to it and you have to squeeze it all together its hard to pull the box forward will get you some pictures maybe you can do the same

Re: Dusted off the old tools... (Sub box build) 1980 stepper
. Here is today's update... I tried a few different ways to get the corners framed.. most sucked and didn't work.. ended up going with a kerf cut... http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...56789/box7.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...56789/box9.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...56789/box8.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...56789/box6.jpg I forgot to take a picture of it in the truck after the test fit... I might go back out and start on the placement of the 6x9's if not tomorrow... . |

Thanks.. you can get it out but you need to work at it a little, but like you said it was the only way I could come up with to use all the space. I don't like to be able to see the empty sides... |

holly crap it's taking for ever to dry... pretty cold in my garage... I'm sure it would take 3 seconds out here in the summer when it's 140 in there... http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...boxglass-1.jpg . |

Re: Dusted off the old tools... (Sub box build) 1980 stepper
I went with a bondo/resin mix... I was able to brush it on... well see what I end up with after sanding... http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...456789/mud.jpg Definitely going to need more filler.. I still have some low spots... . |
Re: Dusted off the old tools... (Sub box build) 1980 stepper
