starter issue

Can anyone help me out having starter issue has anyone had a problem where starter just chicks When I turn the switch it want turn the engine over I have change the battery However I can take a jumper wire from the battery and connect it to the starter and it will start I don't understand what's going on at this point any help would be great sometimes it will crank then there are times when it just chicks and not start

If you haven't already I would remove all of the battery cables and scrape or wire brush all of the terminals and metal that they connect to. It could be the contact disk inside the solenoid but I wouldn't think it would start with the jumper cables either if it was that....

Mine does that too, could it be the ignition switch corrosion?

Thanks this is a new build new painless wire harness I go out after a few days to try and it starts up with no charge on the battery or anything I installed a new battery same problem I am using a 0/1 welding cable from the battery straight to the starter that want cause any issue would it? I was wondering do I have anything connected incorrectly that's causing the problem

Can you get to the purple on at the starter starter? Try to put 12V to that stud. If it just clicks you have a bad solenoid.

Mine was doing that and it was because I had an "emergency repair" type battery terminal like this where the main wire is pinched by a plate. They are not good. Is that the type of battery terminal you have?
