big 10/heavy half?

sitting at home bored and i was just reading up on the vin number info. 4th digit is a 4 on my truck... now i know that my truck seems to be very missmatched... but i just wanna know what the hell is a heavy half?

It's essentially a truck with 3/4 suspension and 1/2 ton axles/wheels.

gotcha, lemme ask you this also, i looked at 79-80 vin's and they only have 4 different engine codes in the vin... U (305) not one of them, which is what my vin reads... any idea?

It also pushed the gvw high enough that GM could leave off emission equipment everywhere but CA.

Exactly. It was a way to keep selling trucks without smog equipment. The law stated that trucks 1/2 ton and under had to have the junk on the engine, but bigger trucks didn't. I've also heard them called 5/8 ton before.
