Stepside VS Fleetside

Im on the hunt really for a 67 or 68 C10 stepside roller. I prefer the large rear window. On the bed i personally like the stepside bed but everybody i talk to about the 67-72 trucks always say " fleetsides look better" ....

Which one turns more heads at car show/cruise ins?

Which one personally look better to you guys ?

Which bed is actually lighter in weight?

Thanks for the help and your opinion....

I have had both and I like both. I just looked at a '67 short stepside the other day. If there were one of each, basically the same, side by side, I would probably pick the fleetside though.

It's not a 67 or 68 but I'm restoring a 70 stepside. I dig it.

If you’re building to keep, then pick whichever one you like the best. If you’re building to sell, I’d go with fleetside, for some reason, and I have no idea why. But stepsides don’t seem to be bringing near the money that fleetsides do.

It’s funny, cause growing up everyone was all about the shortbox stepsides. Now whenever I see them for sale they are quite often significantly cheaper and stay for sale much longer than a similarly built fleetside.

Re: Stepside VS Fleetside

Despite my name on here I am a huge fan of the stepsides. My focus would be on getting the "Right" truck at the right price. Who cares if it's a step or a fleet. They're both cool.

It's like asking asking me Chevy or GMC? Which one would you like?
My answer: Both.

Short Fleetsides do bring more money. But they also cost more money.

Re: Stepside VS Fleetside

Learn something new everyday. I didnt know fleetsides brought more money than stepsides. I stay in Mississippi and all i see on backroads are fleetsides (easily/mostly) spotted. Still havent came across a stepside truck yet. I guess GM didn't build that many stepsides as they did fleetsides. Im not sure but its weird.

It could also be that some of them started life as Stepper and bed was swapped at some point. I have had 2 fleets that started as steppers simply because the owner preferred fleet.

Thats does makes sense.... i never thought about it like that.

I know where 7 to 8 of 67-72 trucks are at going to waste and none are steppers.

Re: Stepside VS Fleetside

Whew, here we go again.
Back in the early 90s the “Fashion World” got ahold of the Stepsides, partly because they were so plentiful(being Fleet trucks originally), and they were low optioned trucks, so they weren’t destroying anything of value, when they completely modified them.
Now they’re going after the long beds and cutting them down, for the same reason.
I have a LWB Fleetside but like Stepsides Just the Same. To me, the LWB steps are more desirable, just because they’re not as common.
I’d be on a LWB Stepside K-10/20 in a heartbeat, just for the Cool Factor

I agree, the Fleetsides seem to bring more money, at least in my area. And by extrapolation must be more desirable to more people. I think it's the clean lines that make Fleetsides so good looking. So the Fleetside is my favorite. Everyone should have their own favorites.
For years just down the street from me was a long box narrow bed truck. May have been a 3/4 ton also. Strange looking but the only one I have ever seen.

Re: Stepside VS Fleetside

I am betting that the fleetside is moe popular because they lend themselves to the full trim package AND the popular white-over-color-over-white-over color paint scheme.

With that said, the stepsides seem to be more rare and always gets my attention...they just stand out due to the fewer numbers. That, and they just look more industrial, more purpose built, but a bit less "muscle".

I love them both, wish I could have one (or ten) of each!

Re: Stepside VS Fleetside

As a teenager everyone had fleetsides but I liked the look of a step side and ended up with a 1970 stepper. I had the only stepside in my area and got comments on it often. My 1985 Honda 200x three wheeler just fit in the bed and I wish I had a photo of that pair together.

I always said if I had another I wanted a 67 or 68 stepside as I liked the front profile a bit better. So, now I am building a 67.

I love the looks of both trucks and would have a different one for every day of the week (or month) if time and money permitted.

Re: Stepside VS Fleetside

I just happened to buy a stepside when I was looking for a truck. I couldn't imagine it having anything other than a stepside bed. However, I like all trucks, I just happen to have a stepper, so I embrace it. Also, FWIW, the stepsides are lighter than fleetsides by about 300 lbs.

I like the Fleetside but there is a reason ...

Buy what you like.... It's going to be your truck.

Re: Stepside VS Fleetside

.
I am partial to the stepper because that was my first vehicle in high school. The way the cab is exposed and the fenders just appeal to me. It's a classier look in my opinion.

That said, I own a fleetside and enjoy it just the same!

68stepbed~ I've seen you and your truck in person at LS fest. Matter or fact we shook hands last year. Your trucks get cooler by the day.

I also love them both, but if I were a farmer or contractor back in 1960s to 70s I would probably buy a new long box fleetside because the box can haul more product. trucks actually were used to work compaired to the pickups today. Just my observation...

I am surprised when I see so many short bed trucks for sale as they were for work in the late sixties early seventies unlike the cowboy Cadillacs we see today for over $75,000.00
