Torque specs for rear axle to spring u-bolts? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Anyone know the torque #'s for the rear axle ( and front axle for that matter) spring to axle u-bolts?

til they are tight basically, if you see bolts flex twisting a bit, then lay off the breaker bar

When I recently got new u-bolts for both axles the axle shop guy's book said in the neighborhood of 110 ft/lbs. was plenty tight.

You DEFINITELY want to check them after a few hundred miles and maybe even again in a few more hundred as they have a tendency to loosen up a bit.

After you drive for a few days, you should retork the U bolts,as they tend to take a "set" as the U end conforms to the shape of the axle.........69 longhorn. need to open my eyes(more coffee).....Yukon Jack allready posted this info.......69

when i was pulling 3/4 tonz rear from 73,i used a breaker bar and my floor jack handle,snapped the bolt off,breaker bar survived but i flew about 20ft!!!
