68 custom - first build
ok, so i have gathered almost all the parts i need. i will be shortening an '84 1/2 ton chassis and putting a '68 cab and front clip on it. i have been told the cab and front clip mounting points are the same. hopefully i can fit the one ton duelly rear end i have and shorten the bed and make it all smooth and powerfull. i plan on boxing the entire frame and strengthening the rear axle mounting with additional cross members. it looks as though i will have to create the back third of the frame from scratch. the frame has factory duel saddle tanks that i would like to keep everything behind the tanks is possibly going to be replaced. i hope to get a full 24 inches shorter, but have not determined if it is possible. i seek advise or warnings from any that are willing.

Re: 68 custom - first build
ok, after surfing around the site for, ummm, 12 hours or so, i now understand how best to utilize the collective expertise of the members here. unfortunately i seem to be a bit premature (and vague) with my queries. please do not take my absence from the site for the next few days as a sign that i am unappreciative of your comments. My wife and I are headed out of town for our anniversary (35 years) and she will certainly get upset if I am distracted by correspondence with you all. I can see by all of your posts that the people here take pride in what they do and I look forward to diving right in to my project. I will have to dig the ’68 out of its resting place for the last 14 months or so and get started on Tuesday when I am back from holiday. I am certain that I will have to give much more attention to bodywork than I originally planned. My main goal is to build a heavy duty ‘pushtruck/track truck’ I can use in my first passion, dirt track racing. I shall return. i guess my first question is "will a '68 cab bolt to an '84 chassis without any fabrication?"
