AC Fan Strength?

Hey all, have a quick question regarding AC... just fixed the AC on R134 and it blows very cold (not as cold as a 2011 model car would, though). It can still cool off the cabin even in 100 degree GA heat, but it takes a while. I think part of the problem is the fan strength and/or blocked vents.

On MAX AC with the fan on HIGH, it blows strong out of the driver's left vent, the middle dash vent, and the middle floorboard vent. Eventually the floorboard vent seals up and it blows stronger out of those two dash vents. However, the passenger right vent blows weak and the vent over the radio/HVAC blows weak as well.

Just curious as to whether I should grab the fan first or pull the dash and look for vent blockage; do these old trucks blow a little weaker, especially without R12? Anybody have a similar experience? If I could get more air-current strength the cabin would cool off quicker.

Thanks...

Re: AC Fan Strength?

What type of condensor is installed? R12 or R134? Do you have the ends closed off. Force as much air through the condensor as possible. Use foam or something to close the gap between the air codensor and raidiator. Check the heater flap. It may not close all the way when you go from heat to cold.

On the passenger side vent, make sure the flex tube that goes from the vent to the AC plenum has not slipped off or desinigrated. You can reach it by pulling the glove box down.

Re: AC Fan Strength?

Should blow out of the four upper vents when on AC..... probably bad hoses and leaking vacuum to the servo that controls the vent direction.

What does closing the gap between the condensor and radiator with foam accomplish? I'm not disagreeing with you or anything I am just curious.

Re: AC Fan Strength?

Close only the end side gaps!! You want to force air through the condensor then the radiator. Air will go around the condensor if the ends are open.
