Aftermarket Exhaust Systems

Well... it's time to replace the muffler in my bone stock Chevy 2500HD with a 6.0L. After calling a couple of shops to just replace the muffler it was compareable in price to some of the cat-back systems.

I did a search and came up empty with what I'm lookin' for. I basically was lookin' for opinions on the systems available out there today. The best deal I found (and like) was the Dynomax cat-back system Part #39379.

I like the Monster system from Banks... but not for 600 bones. I do plan on instaling a Banks intake system later. But that's a different thread.

So... any input or opinions on what exhausts you guys have used and like for a 6.0L Chevy/GMC?

Try Summit. They sell Pypes systems that are reasonable and sound good. Not sure if they have them for your truck specifically but its worth looking into.

i have always found it cheaper to just take it to an exhaust shop and have them do what you want to it. I had a flowmaster 40 series 3 inch in 3 inch out and a single 3 inch pipe dumped behind the axle on my truck for $175 this is all from the cat back to.

I've been looking for a new muffler for my 1500HD with the 6.0. I want a little bit of rumble, but not too loud. Flowmaster has a muffler specifically for the 6.0 applications. It is the 530513. That is what my local shop mentioned to me because I just wanted a simple replacement for the stocker, and I like the Flowmaster mufflers. Although I can't find many sound clips for it to get a good opinion. I have also heard some of the Magnaflow systems on youtube, but still haven't decided. Looking forward to other members opinions.

Thanks for the replies guys! I love Flowmaster mufflers. Have the 40 series on my 1972 GMC, 3" in 3" out, into a 3" dual exhaust that dumps out in front of the rear tires. LOUD! I want this truck to be just a little louder than stock. It's my pull truck as well since I haul a travel trailer.

I'm headed over to Flowmaster's website to listen to some sound files to see what might be good.

That's what I'm looking for too. Don't want it too loud when pulling the trailer. Good luck finding some sound clips. Most of the ones I have heard are all going for loudness, not moderate

I noticed that John. I also hunt with this rig... so I don't wan't it sounding like my '72 as I'm drivin' up to my huntin' spots.

Is your truck a crew, extended, or single cab?

I've had the flowmaster cat back 50 series system on two trucks, one crew and one extended long bed. They sound MEAN, but it more aggresive sound than most and it does have some drone but it's not bad. I'd do the flowmaster again and it's really easy to install

I welded a magnaflow into the stock system on my 1500 extended(4.8,small V8). This has a nice mellow rumble,but not too loud. The 14" case,2 1/2 in/out muffler was $80 at my local speedshop. You might like the case a little longer, with the 6.0 to keep it mellow. crazyL
