They certainly seem to be homemade to me, although whoever did it did a pretty good job of it. As a part of it, they also lined the bed with the same steel treadplate, and even went up over the sides with it; kind of like a slide-in liner. IIRC it's all 12 gauge thickness (maybe 14, but I want to say I remember it being 12), and judging from the deep valley pounded into the bottom of the bed near the tailgate, that thickness wasn't excessive at all!
