Cowl Data plate and SPID

I finally brought the new project home, and looking at the SPID, mine is best classified as BASIC TRUCK:

My question is does the Cowl data plate (which I have not yet discovered) contain only the same information as the SPID. I'm trying to determine the rearend gear ratio without crawling under the truck to look on the tail of the rearend. Actually, not the tail, but the snout as I understand it.

Re: Cowl Data plate and SPID

Cruisinthe34, These trucks did not have a cowl tag. You can tell what came in your truck by what's not listed on your SPID. Your truck came with a 250cid, 3-speed manual and a 3:73 open rear end. That was the standard driveline for a 6cyl truck. If you had anything different it would be listed on the SPID as options. Very nice looking truck BTW.

Re: Cowl Data plate and SPID

Perfect !!!! That 3:73 saves me from having to rebuild or put a new rear end under this. Thats Exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks !

Re: Cowl Data plate and SPID

Pimped out with the painted rear bumper I see. 1-pct'er.

Which brings to mind "What did you have if not that?". I've seen Nissan 1/4-ton trucks with no bumper because it was optional, but I thought we all at least got a bumper, and if not painted, and certainly not chrome, then what was "standard"?

cruisinthe34 sorry for stepping in but I was wondering the same about the rear gear ratio I got out of a two wheel drive 72 Blazer that was stock with a 307 / 350 automatic.
Thanks Nick

Standard was no rear bumper. Standard front bumper was painted.

Re: Cowl Data plate and SPID

Well just ordered my 4/6 Drop kit from ECE. Nice folks. I was expecting to have to do a front disc brake conversion, but am told the '71 came with Front discs. So I ordered their Power brake booster set up and that should take care of that !

As for that beautiful Painted rear bumper I plan to remove it and do a rear roll pan like I have on my '41 F#rd:

We Don't Need no Stinking Bumpers !

I believe this would be a 3:73, not a 3:07

Re: Cowl Data plate and SPID

Our trucks are very similar in options, just color's and year that are different. And mine is/was a very rusty Michigan truck lol
