Re: a little Brake Cleaner price point comparison

We used to use the hot tank to degrease brake parts, especially relatively good brake shoes that had gear oil from a leaking rear wheel bearing seal. I'd think that Purple Power (which, I think, is lye-based) would also clean the parts. I only ever used brake fluid to clean the insides of wheel cylinders while reaming during a rebuild. I guess times change.

Never seen a 1lb4oz can of brake cleaner before. But man, they must be banking on people not working out the price since it costs more per unit than the smaller can.

great point reminds me of Marketing class where we learned about studies done on the buy one balloon for $1.50 or three for $5.00 bucks type of thing and how people kept buying them in batches of three, it's a psychology thing I think or something like that

^ The word you're looking for is innumerate- a lack of number sense. All one has to be is "po" (so poor one can't afford the other two letters) to work at figuring out which option is cheaper.

I went to Walmart yesterday. The Super Tech brake cleaner was the same price as the CRC. For the same money, I'll buy CRC.

Like also mentioned ... shop rags, towels, spray paints, thinners etc. Thats all over on 2-4. Again thats if it was always a Lowes.

Now I went to the Lowes while in Maui once just to check it out. Not laid out the same. You might want to check that one out too ... worth the visit haha.

note the lonely last can of the good ol' three dollar AutoZone brand, which now by the way costs upwards of $5.00 bucks

the Shop Pro blue cans claim to be it's replacement, I have yet to use one of these, have any of youz?

Re: a little Brake Cleaner price point comparison

FWIW- I throw a few cans in my order whenever I order oil since I'm already getting an order shipped to me but AMSOIL Brake Cleaner is $6.99 per 19oz. can ($5.19 if you have your Preferred Customer subscription) or $6.81 per can ($4.88 as a PC) if you buy a 12-can case of it.

But not available in Canada, California or New Jersey

Re: a little Brake Cleaner price point comparison

the only reason I am including AMAZON is because it seems to be the only way for us Californians to still get the forbidden $4.47 red can

I have seen in the past where Amazon will let you place the order, pay for it, then they will send you a nice little message, hey we've cancelled your order and you got a refund cause we can't ship to California, so I tested that with this order and they actually delivered it

I was just at O'Reilly's. They said the case price is for commercial accounts only.

My hotrod buddy doesnt either and he gets it by the case now, instead of a few cans at a time, after I told him
