Re: Spy Ballon
In the absence of forthright information we tend to create our own reactionary speculations. I have read that this was the second balloon from China to pass over the US and three others passed over before Biden's term. This is the first out of the five to be shot down

Re: Spy Ballon
I closed the search tabs. It was a news site. I can't site a nonbiased source any better than anyone else. I just searched "spy balloon" and got news results. Like I said in a prior post, we don't actually know the whole story on any of this. I'm not taking sides on a thing we don't know the line of. One fact I read coming from Christina Bobb is the power to mobilize our military belongs to congress, Article 1 Section 8 Clause 11.
So China threatens further actions after balloon was shot down? Further actions? Like further than sending a spy balloon? First the apologize for their "strayed weather balloon", which is an acceptance of fault. The USA had every legal right to shoot it down. They were wrong, we were right. Now further action? Like making sure this never happens again?

Re: Spy Ballon
Embarrassing for Americans, I think not. We spy on China with satellites and aerial planes while China sends an antenna tied to a ballon now that is embarrassing. Do people really think America isn’t capable of intercepting the signal and hacking the info being sent? So far 1 ballon shot down and 3 were left alone, I think we can all gauge who handled this better.

Re: Spy Ballon
The statement from the Defense Department can be read HERE
"The official said Chinese balloons briefly transited the continental United States at least three times during the prior administration." That's the entirety of the Pentagon's claim, a single sentence. Note the "official" is unnamed and no details are given as to whether these alleged additional examples were a similar type spy balloon, where/when the alleged additional brief incursions happened, or for how long these balloons were allegedly in US airspace. It's irresponsible to draw any conclusions from this single sentence inserted into DOD statement unless and until a named official goes on record and provides details and documentation such as we saw this week regarding the balloon sent by the Peoples Liberation Army of the communist Peoples Republic of China. Otherwise, it's hearsay or potentially cover/deflection for the bungling we witnessed this week. In its current form, the sentence from the DOD essentially propaganda.

Re: Spy Ballon
Who here has shown proof of any of their claims. Bungled? Says who? How can anyone speak as if they know the honest details? What are your sources and where is the proof? Nothing shown in this thread. What's so unbelievable about this balloon not being the first? Didn't your article mention the other balloon since Biden has been in office? Who here knows the things we haven't been told about anything? Aren't we believing what we want to believe here? I don't know what is true but I know it's very possible this was not the first case of a Chinese spy balloon or other forms of spying and I know there are politicians (and news outlets) that are using this as a prop for their agenda. Who here knows the meaning of "bias blind spot"? It's a good thing to understand and take a look at within ourselves. It takes a conscious effort to overcome it. Don't allow yourselves be towed into it. Keep an objective view.

Re: Spy Ballon
Are you sure that's not British? That beer would be mighty warm!
Back before the mortgage crisis I knew a lot of people with balloons. I never rode in any or even saw one, but I'd always be hearing them whining about their balloon payments.

Re: Spy Ballon
From the gCaptain marine news site.
https://gcaptain.com/u-s-fighter-jet...e-spy-balloon/ And from Wikipedia with 46 sources listed. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023...lloon_incident I also learned that the balloon was the ever first aircraft downed by a F-22 Raptor. Knowing pilots I'm guessing it will take a lot of years for the pilot to live that down.

If they did have some in the last administration, they didn’t tell the prez, because he would have had them shot down for sure. Lol (not lol)

Re: Spy Ballon
We've taken a turn to speculating on what we don't know once again. I'll speculate and say I'm pretty sure all presidents are informed on all matters of national security.

Re: Spy Ballon
Speculating or not, This is a pure sign of how weak our country has become allowing this to happen. I don't care what media is saying about this happening before, I've never witnessed it in my lifetime, nor in my parents lifetime,(both deceased) what happens when it's real armed military equipment?

Re: Spy Ballon
If it really happened during the Trump administration do you really think the media would not have run wild with it? It doesn't really matter whether it happened before or not anyway. It happened now and it makes us look incompetent and weak.

Re: Spy Ballon
All right, we all need to stop freaking out over the balloon thing. As most people know by now, this has happened before.
So here's what we need to do now... Retrieve the wreckage of the payload. Weigh and measure it as best we can. Obtain an appropriate sized shipping container, and notify the Chinese that we are returning their inoperative hardware, giving them the weight and dimensions of the shipping container. Then go find every returned, defective, broken Harbor Freight tool we can get and stuff the container until it doesn't rattle. Send it freight due upon receipt.

Maybe we look incompetent and weak to some people, but look anywhere we've sent troops and ask the people who came up against them. I'm not even convinced that this incident was badly handled by the gov, let alone appearing "weak".

An unnamed official stated that the reason the Creepy Joe had the balloon shot down was to fight inflation.
