Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20

Little bit of an update...

Got the Amp and speakers wired up, and it sounds GREAT!!! It's super easy to use, bluetooth connects to the phone right away and plays music, even handles the phone calls! I'm pretty pumped to be honest. I love having great tunes and modern amenities, all while keeping a completely factory looking dash.

Here's the speaker mounting bracket I made. I traced the outline of the stock 4x10 speaker onto a sheet of 1/2" plastic from TAP, ($2.15 from their scrap pile) and cut it out, then used a 3 1/8" hole saw to cut out the speaker holes. I ended up using 1/2" spacers to drop the mount lower so the tweeter domes didn't stick up though the top of the metal dash and interfere with the dash pad.

So the one issue I've had is in wiring up the stock AM-FM radio to the amp. I tried to avoid pulling the radio out, so I pulled out the speaker connection plug from the back of the Delco AM/FM. It looks like this:

Untitled by awesome_adawson, on Flickr

Not sure what the ABCD refers to, I was hoping I'd see +- signs or at least front/rear left/right... so I guess I have to troubleshoot the plugs and see what works. The Amp has speaker-level inputs, so if I do it properly I will be able to play the AM-FM through the amp and speakers as well.

I was running short on time and had to throw the seat back in, so for now its not hooked up.

I also ordered more boom mat carpet underlay, and a new molded carpet kit from ACC (through RockAuto, $119 +SH, Tax)

Once that stuff arrives I'll pull the seat again and finish up that project.

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20

Also managed to replace a broken passenger side mirror glass, change the oil and filter, and flush my radiator about a thousand times...

Started off with this mess...

Untitled by awesome_adawson, on Flickr

and after about 10 flushes I'm down to this

I am going to hit it a few more times tomorrow then fill it up with antifreeze...Pretty nasty in there. Makes me wonder how long its been since that was changed!

Solid work. Do you have a link for the amp? I’ve got the 6x9’s in my camper truck but probably need a set in the plow truck.

Thanks!

Here’s the amp

https://www.amazon.com/Infinity-K4-1...gateway&sr=8-1

It looks like that model has been replaced in Infinity’s lineup by a non-Bluetooth amp, so be careful when ordering. I found that Crutchfield only carried the new amp, but was able to find this one on a handful of sites. Amazon was cheapest as usual.

I didn’t really know these existed, so when I called Crutchfield and explained what I wanted to do, they had a handful of solid suggestions for Bluetooth amps. JL makes a very similar model. I guess these setups are common for boats, Side by Sides and RV’s, basically allows you to use your phone as the head unit, without the need for an actual stereo.

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20

Went ahead and ordered the Wheel Vintiques Series 82, 16”x8” 8 Lug Steelies. Went with Jegs, and the shipping date says June...

I know there are current frustrations with WV, but they make the wheel I need! I had their Series 62 15’s on my ‘70 and I loved them, so here’s hoping for the best!

Trust me, the thought has crossed my mind more than once...

I just keep repeating "but it runs so good dont mess with it" over and over again!

I was just looking at some more heavy duty front springs to possibly level it out a tad...

Also, scored a great set of 3/4 caps, Thanks PICKMUP, now just waiting forever for the Steelies from Wheel Vintiques.

New carpet from ACC arrived, but it's raining now so I'm gonna wait a few days before I tackle that one.

Speaker stuff is almost all complete, bluetooth works awesome and speakers sound GREAT! Just gotta wire up the am/fm radio to the amp so I can still tune in my local stations... Posted a 'help' thread over in the audio section. Feel free to stop over there and offer any advice.

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20

Finished up the wiring on my stereo system. Now it plays the factory AM/FM radio through, as well as bluetooth connection to my phone. So happy with this setup. Everything hidden, factory radio in dash, and all the awesome tunes I could ever want!

Untitled by awesome_adawson, on Flickr

Also added more carpet underlay and a fresh carpet in "Willow Green" from ACC. Install was pretty straightforward. Took a little massaging in the corners, but overall fairly painless.

Love these mats. Previous owner had a thing for Mooneyes products I guess (note the bag hanging on the floor vent knob too) and it goes so well with the green interior that I am just gonna keep it as is.

Sure is! After my previous '70 SWB was kind of a basket case, I'm really loving having a truck that's all there, everything works, and isn't hard to look at.

Wow, never seen any other cars in this color... although the new camaros have a pretty bright green going these days...

Factory speakers? check Retrosound. They make factory replacements for most vintage vehicles. But to be honest, their stuff is overpriced for what you get. Your truck most likely has 3.5" speakers in the dash which you can replace with nearly any 3.5" speaker with little to no modification, and whether or not your truck came with kick panel or behind the seat speakers those are easily replaceable with higher quality speakers for far less.

Going back to factory for any reason other then correct restoration is not worth it.

Call Crutchfield, they have great customer service and will advise you on speaker selection.

I used "Kilmat" brand from Amazon, 36 sqft. Covered the entire floor and back of cab, plus a sheet or two extra for the speaker enclosures. Seemed to be same quality or pretty close to dynamat, hushmat etc. When buying, do yourself a favor and purchase a high quality roller, you use the HECK out that thing to get it all down flat. I got a wooden handled one from Noico (also amazon)

Cab sounds nice and quiet now!

Also used the Year Of Manufacture license plate program to run a sweet set of proper plates. Scored the plates from a buddy, and the stickers from Old Plate Guy. Just need some cool plate frames to complete the look.

Far as I know... I’d be pretty surprised if it wasn’t, aside from the steering wheel (which was included in the sale) the interior is awfully stock.
