Gas $$ won't stop me from driving my truck, my 71 Chevelle or the 57 with the 2-4s that are rather thirsty, LOL. I'll B**** and gripe about the gas as I pour it in and then go on my merry way down the road.

Amen brother!

Nothing's going to stop me from driving my beloved old girl.

Except, maybe the battery that keeps going dead...That kinda stops me.

Re: Will gas prices mothball your truck?

With as many cars as we have at our house, it's hard to drive anything but the Kia, which is the work car. 60+ mi/day commute. The 67 has an LS, and is a riot to run errands in on the weekend, so I'll use it when I can dig it out. The 87 is non OD, and is thirsty, so probably not as much. It's existence is being Questioned by SWMBO, so who knows? The Duramax is the big tugger anyway, so boat duty for it.

No way, my trucks are family members, my children.
I won't make them stand in the corner till fuel prices come down.
Besides, the salted roads are clearing up, need more rain!

Re: Will gas prices mothball your truck?

No, gas prices will not get me to mothball anything. I'll roll with the changes as I have since I started driving 10mpg vehicles. I guess I always consider the gas used and is it worth it before heading out somewhere. I wait and combine trips when I can. When the price gets so high I really have to consider what gas I use. It's costing me $25 a day to get to work. I need to come up with a more thrifty daily driver for when I don't need a heavy truck

Re: Will gas prices mothball your truck?

^ A guy down the street has a cabinet shop. He has a big 4wd Dodge. When gas started getting too expensive, he bought a Courier pickup for days when he's not delivering the finished cabinets. The gas money he saved paid for that little truck.

I can get pretty wordy at times, especially if I get in nostalgic story mode, but this thread seemed to call for a simple answer. Plus I live in SC, we have some of the cheapest gas still in the country. Most stations have been hanging on to 3.99 for at least a week now. They don't seem to want to crack that $4.00 mark. The two toys I drive the most have OD. The 65 mustang gets almost 20 mpg with the 5 spd if I don't rail on it and with the 700R the C10 gets 12-15 mpg depending on how I drive it that day, usually closer to 12

Re: Will gas prices mothball your truck?

I've sold my bronco and am in the process of selling my 92 F150. I bought a 14 accord yesterday to drive instead of my 13 F150, going from 18-19mpg to 33mpg is going to help with monthly gas costs for me.

Re: Will gas prices mothball your truck?

I'll admit to driving my C20 less. But I'm cutting corners anyway, a gal 2.5 hours from me will do that. So I mostly drive my least favorite ride, which is an Outback. All my other vehicles are trucks.

C10 doesn't matter, I'd drive it the same no matter what the price. Plus it's not running yet

Simple answer: High gas prices make me appreciate driving my trucks more

Re: Will gas prices mothball your truck?

I have to drive forty miles to the nearest town that has everything I need and want. So I figure I might as well go in style and catch a few compliments when I get there. Also doesn’t hurt my feelings when I get a wave from a good looking female. So I’ll keep on driving my 72.

Re: Will gas prices mothball your truck?

The last time gas prices went crazy I stopped driving my 95 Trans Am because it swills premium gas at 11 mpg. Well, that pause turned into extended down time. Fast forward to now when I am pulling the engine and trans for new gaskets because all dried out and leak profusely. I wish I would have just bit the bullet and drove it once a week, just to keep everything lubricated.

So I will be driving my truck, just not as heavy footed as usual.

Re: Will gas prices mothball your truck?

My DD is a 93 Suburban with a 454, but my commute to work is short. It is also used to haul things and pull trailers, etc. Both of my 72's also get the same type of use but no better mileage that the Suburban. I sometimes think that I should get a cheap commuter car, but then there's the cost of buying, maintaining and insuring an extra car, so I always just keep driving what I have.

Re: Will gas prices mothball your truck?

I could drive our Honda Accord everyday but I will continue to drive my Silverado. It just feels more comfortable to me.

Also, my '51 sat all winter. So once the weather gets better I will drive it as much as I usually do. The expensive part is the truck, the price of gas has little to do with the cost to own and drive it.

Re: Will gas prices mothball your truck?

My C30 is the only 67-72 truck I have that drives, but Id have to take it out of mothballs in order to put it back in mothballs.

Ive never driven it far so I have zero idea what a 402/th400 one ton would get mileage wise, Im guessing not too good =)
