Re: 57 GMC Big Window low budget build

I hate finding damage too, I bought the truck off CL in Utah so it was real tough to get the whole picture until it arrives. All and all I am happy with the truck . Your truck is very nice I can't wait to have that much progress.

Re: 57 GMC Big Window low budget build

Anyone know if there is hole to measure off of to find the front end center line without hanging the fenders on?

What measurement you need I can pull it off my truck or my neighbors for you. Pull from any hole to any part.

I used the original axle as the centerline, marked the frame above it. You could re-hang the front fenders and slide the c4 clip under the frame rails and adjust and set as needed to get the right look. When I do the camaro clips I like to push the axle centerline forward about an inch.

That would be great thanks, I see two sets of holes one for the flex line on the side of the rail and the other is about a inch behind it on top of the frame rail if you locate center of the axle away from either of those points would be great. My axle is bent pretty bad so I don't know how accurate mine would be.

Yea I just took my cab off but if I can't find the center line I will do that. Thanks for the heads up on moving it foward I've seen people say 1 1/2 to 1/2 I guess it depends on your wheels and tire size Im thinking a inch will be perfect thanks

Re: 57 GMC Big Window low budget build

Well, I got what I think was allot done today. Got the cab cleaned out found some neat things behind the gas tank. (pictured) I cut the column out broke allot of bolts unbolting the cab and gas tank, found some rot, and got impatient waiting for friends to help take the cab off and ended up taking it off myself and dropping it I finished up the dolly to put the cab on, then looked at my neighbors atv trailer and decided to take the cab off my awesome dolly and use the trailer. The trailer was nice though because I can get everything out of my garage and just concentrate on the frame. Frame time tomorrow! Hope you guys like pics heres a bunch!

Re: 57 GMC Big Window low budget build

thanks it's going to be hard to keep up with everyone on here. I liked the way the cart came out so i almost was going to keep the cab on it but the trailer just worked out soo much better! it's funny in the pic of my truck on the cart you can see the trailer under my neighbors deck. Thanks for the kind words

That's a lot of progress.
Invest in a engine hoist and you'll find getting the cab on and off is a lot easier.

Re: 57 GMC Big Window low budget build

Ok this may be a real dumb question ...... don't you love when a conversation starts like this. Above the front spring hanger on both sides of the frame I see some trucks have a tab on the top with 2 rivets on both sides my frame does not what are these for and should I be looking for some?
