Re: 1968 "Early Model"

With the rust repair I’d pass. You’ll spend a fortune in time and money fixing that, even if the truck was free.

Pics will show the truck isn't in even driving/starting condition. Nice gas jug hanging on the grill, he had a 1 amp battery charger(whatever) on the battery. I thought when I opened the hood I saw a cruise control module. Not, it's a 60's style mini air compressor for his air horn, which he says doesn't go with the truck. SPID sheet wasn't legible. On a positive note, he HAS the original window sticker from the dealership on the cost of the truck. His Dad bought the truck new. If anyone would be willing to pay somewhere close to his asking price, you could bring a trailer and get this truck from him. PM me for info. I'd be the go between because this gentleman isn't ready to deal with many people looking at his truck.

sorry about pics being sideways. working on it.
With the top picture sideways, I thought it was stuck in a ditch too.

Well, it's not an Arizona truck, that's for sure. [Not too many left out here, anymore.]

Just came across the 68 key believe it’s the original one from new

Re: 1968 "Early Model"

My 68 has a 67 key, but a non-folding bench. The folding bench was definitely an early year thing.

Where I live that is a $2000 truck all day long. You could clean it up and get it running and sell it for more if you liked.

Re: 1968 "Early Model"

A PITA, but there are a lot of rot bottom cabs out there with solid tops.

As far as the early '68 thing goes, I've known of one that could be considered that. I did a post on it many years ago. It was Dark Aqua with Fawn interior including paint, as I recall. I remember taking pictures of the paint divide areas. The seat folded forward and the dash knobs were '67 style. I am 99% sure the dash was a '67 dash. This was a big window truck, all original. I wish I could find that thread. It might not have been it's own thread, maybe a "small window '68" thread. If this truck had a white top it was done like the '67s. This truck was a true oddball

Possibly mine? It was everything you describe, but it was a 67 with a Panoramic cab. I was going to part it but it was too nice, sold it to a gent who got it on the road.

Re: 1968 "Early Model"

That's the color, and a nice truck. The '68 Chevy I'm talking about was my friend's here in PA. I took the pictures and posted about it. It was over 10 years ago. I think he bought it to part out also, but it went to a father & son for restoration.

It does look like cruise control, but maimed. Missing the outer casing for the cable that goes to the speedo.

I like the .50 Cal ammo can tool box. I bet it's still waterproof.

Re: 1968 "Early Model"

That looks like the rare "Corvette 327" option too.

Not a Corvette one, but '68 trucks did have a fairly rare 327. Large journal steel crank 327

Was a pretty common thing to do my stepper had two one on each step. They are dated 1964 .I left the holes to put them back on as I Think they look pretty cool and are lockable.

I run Jerry Can brackets full time in the stepwells. I can have one 5 Gallon can on each side. The Stepside is the fetch-mobile on Gas Nite, which is at the end of the month when I redeem up to 1000 VIP Points and get $1.00 off per gallon at supermarket X-branded gas pumps.
Pix later.

Re: 1968 "Early Model"

I still have the ammo box I carried spare snow plow parts & gear in the bed of a '71 K/20. My Gerry can situation has dwindled away. I have nada. Used to have a bunch of ammo boxes, too.

Don't let that short block get away. Most likely an 010 casting with steel crank. A great base for a build. That's what I have with 64cc heads. By the time I use it I'll open it back up (rebuilt in '07). Probably do aluminum heads, maybe Vortec, maybe different cam. I had a TH400 for it when it was built, now M22.

Re: 1968 "Early Model"

I wouldn’t sell the motor . I’ll eventually rebuild it with some nice speed parts . But for now I’m looking far a good running engine .
