Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

Great progress Dylan, The steering wheel is looking great. I really like the bike in the bed a few pages ago. People always ask me what kind of bike I ride. I guess I look like a biker with a goatee and a shaved head. I tell them I am smart enough to know how stupid I am so I stick with 4 wheels.
I think a first gen sbc rebuild would be a great choice. Once you get into a later model EFI engine there is a lot of side expenses with fuel tanks, fuel pump, wiring, ECM programming and blah blah blah. I went with a '97 vortec just because I bought a great running wrecked vehicle for $600 but I initially planned a first gen carb motor (rebuilt and still sitting on an engine stand). You cant go wrong with a first gen sbc rebuild.

Are you trying to sneak some wheels in on us? I sniped this pic from a few pages ago.... looks nice on your ride I think!

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

Thanks Dan I've enjoyed hauling motorcycles in the back havent done much of it lately but I am looking to start taking my dirtbike out more, I need some kind of setup for that though so I dont ruin anything or have the bike fall on the bedrail. and yes I'm plaanin 1st gen SBC crate with maybe a 4l60e behind it since the 700's have an issue holding up for anything over the vortec's power.

as for the wheels negative they looked really poor to my taste so steamroller I stay for now. I almost wanna go with some stockers and lower my truck more I really dig that look lately

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

Well boys Newtype is all shined up and ready to roll in the morning to Goodguys Pleasanton CA, hope to see a bunch of members there and have a real good time. This will be the farthest drive this truck has taken but I'm very confident in it holding up its end of the task I'll be sure to take plenty of pictures of all the trucks and some cool stuff I see through the day but as for now I'm out like a light.

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

I must say waking up at 4am was not the brightest part of the day by least on Saturday but I am VERY proud of my truck and how well she took to driving the distance she did and performing as well as she did 150+ miles one tank of gas (yes gas hog) but she was doing 70-75mph the entire way up and back on the same day and same tank of fuel (Thank you California traffic for making cruising impossible on any road or highway), NewType never got hot barely fluxuating on the temp gauge no matter sitting in traffic or doing 75 she stayed perfectly cool under the pressure. She did burn up probably half a quart of oil on the trip but that may be mostly because of my breather and PCV valve not functioning correctly. The new steering wheel had no issues at all I was sue to check for any slack or possible catastrophic failure due to the major crack in the hub of the wheel the night before and after the trip I feel very safe about that portion however I may be looking into getting a new steering box swapped in to remove ALL my play in the wheel because the larger wheel sure shows it more now. Lately it has been sticking before turning nothing forceful but enough to make you notice that it is defintely not normal so my guess would be something internal such as a worm gear so instead of messing with the stocker of a box that im sure the P.O. never took care of I will be looking into a remanned 150$ replacement from GALAXY high performance parts to ease my stress of failures on this truck and make it that much nicer of a driver for me or anyone that drives it. Either way I am very stoked and looking forward to the next big trip or even a small one to a local swap meet. I will also collage the progress of the wheel from start to finish and what I have done to make it an Ebay/junkyard special into a daily driven and tested wheel. Maybe tomorrow though it's been a long weekend

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

Hey Dylan I got me a rebuilt power steering gear from oreillys for $125 and it has a lifetime warranty. On another note I was very disappointed that my only got 13.28 miles per gallon I expected a lot more. Than again my carb is jetted with big jets and small metering rods. I'm gonna try de tuning it a bit and see how much of a difference it makes. Your truck looked killer and we will talk next month about my wheel

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

Rebuilt power steering gear? And I was a bit disappointed as well but shoot for the speed we have to go so that wee aren't run over we have no choice really. I also want to mention that EVERYTIME I wanna go somewhere the wind feels like being 25mph + when I drive my truck. I wanna call bs on that

For sure I'm definitely down for some good times at the Stockton swap meet. I thought about your wheel when I typed this last night and wondered if you wanted to get rid of the patina even but the interior doesn't hold much of the outside look right?

No there is very little patina on the inside and the outside will get painted some day. Was getting ideas out there and now I am not sure about the red......

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

So this is the little bugger in question. I developed a tiny leak from my breather on the pass. Side and that leads me to the driver sides PCV valve. So is this 2088 model the better of choices? She don't rattle much so replacing I will be doing.

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

The molding put me at 1 more to find (right front lower bed side) an then ill have all original lower moldings to put on when I'm ready. And I thought the yardstick was just too cool for only 10$ each.

Hey Dyan, funny story, I talked to that girl running the picture booth and lets just say she gave me one for free!! Mark asked for her number and she said "yeah, I'll give you my husbands number"

She wasn't cute but I thought it was funny that a picture showed up in my truck.....
