Re: Dumpinthegutter '62 Build

Monte, pic as promised. Once I take the time to wire them right I'll show you how I modified the housing and how they look just halos. I'd pull it now but every time I take it apart the white paint gets a little more wear.

McMurphy, thanks! That was so easy, i left those emblems on when it was painted. Then came back with a buffer and lightly hit them. I didn't know if it would look good or not, but I really like it.

Re: Dumpinthegutter '62 Build

Fender cut. Now hood hinge hitting tire. I guess I'll be moving to the porter built hinges. Also hitting the firewall now. Don't think I'm going to modify it so this is likely as low as she'll go.

Thanks for the pics Dump. Looks killer. You've got some nice personal touches on this truck. I didn't really notice the emblems before but it is a nice look. Keep it up man!!!

Re: Dumpinthegutter '62 Build

Thank you all. I believe the tires are 245/35/22.

Suspension should be done in a couple of weeks. Once all that is wrapped up, I'll be moving to the engine. I have been putting together a 496. I went a little over board with it, it's easily 750 HP. I'm starting to think that's going to be too much for this truck. I may end up putting the big block in a 65 Chevelle, and going to a mild LS for the truck. Still up in the air there.

Re: Dumpinthegutter '62 Build

This build is looking great. Keep up the work and awesome job that you are doing on it. That 496 sounds stout, you will go through tires for sure. Thanks for updating and sharing the pictures.

Re: Dumpinthegutter '62 Build

It's a great engine. Just not sure it's the one for the truck. My dad really wants the motor for his project so I'll probably let him take it. Heres his little project.

Re: Dumpinthegutter '62 Build

Making sweet progress.

When I stuffed my 285/45R22's in things didn't fit so well and was wondering if your going to do any modifying to the firewall for clearance on your 245/35/22's?

Re: Dumpinthegutter '62 Build

Thanks guys. I wish it was moving faster but good things take time.

Bomp - I lied before, tires are 265/35/22. But yes, I did alter the firewall. Here's some pics of what I had to do. I haven't patch it back yet or figured out new tubs yet. With this cut the truck lays the lower control arms. Crossmember is very close to ground, but not laying.

Here's some pics of the rear. Frame is boxed. Links gusseted, etc

Re: Dumpinthegutter '62 Build

Quick update. Still lots to get done. Needs gas tank mounted and lines ran and shocks to be driving. Needs porter built hood hinges installed / hood mounted, bed cut / floor raised, front fender tubs. After that it's done with the suspension phase and onto the drivetrain.

Old gas tank up against cab to move it around.

Build looks great! I wish there was a template for an inner fender kit like that!

Re: Dumpinthegutter '62 Build

Thanks. My buddy Dean is the master craftsman. We looked at it with raising the stock fender up but I like this better.

Re: Dumpinthegutter '62 Build

Thanks guys. It's driving better. I had to redo the rear end. When we went to put the bed on, the axle that was under it was 1.5" too wide. The body line was hitting the 22's when it laid out, holding the rear up about 4". I went to the salvage yard and got a rear end out of an impala police chaser. It is 3" narrower but still 5x5. So all of the brackets were redone. In the process we moved the shock mounts to accommodate a longer shock. That helped with the ride. Also moved the rear end about an inch to better center the wheel in the wheel well.

It's taking a long time, but it's turning out just how I'd hoped. The hood has been a disaster. I'm still waiting on the porter built hinges. The first time I was shipped hinges for a 67-72, returned those and then received back the same year hinge, but with the strut options. Those have been returned again. Hopefully the right hinges will show up pretty quick. These were ordered through a third party. I've since got in contact with Dave at Porter Built and I don't think this will be an issue again.
