Re: Project "flip that truck or else!"

so phase 3 happened on Saturday night.. John (sourkrout) and I had a marathon session in body work. Cut the old roof off and welded on the new one... then spent four hours working on the windshield before we gave up on it.. what a pain in the butt...

Re: Project "flip that truck or else!"

measure measure measure... hardest part was getting the new roof prepped like the old roof... In the end it was all within an 1/8" or less of original with only a little bit of filler needed on the rear curves...

Re: Project "flip that truck or else!"

John is pretty good with the welder and was a good psort to hang in till 430 AM when we finally gave up on the windshield... Safelite is coming by tomorrow to install a new one for the trucks owner... i don't like to fail but those windshields are something else...

Gold engine paint on the inside (all I could find that was close) and i'm going to put one more coat or white on top tomorrow...

I said it was a marathon body work session..930 am till 430 am... and I had to drive it home without a windshield!!!

It was cold enough that they were sleeping!

Windshield went in today.. Safelite guy did it by himself in about 40 Minutes.. would have been 20 if the rubber seal wasn't 45 degrees and tough as heck to handle. He thought it was going to break right at the end though, but it didn't... Note to self, buy a better widshield seal when I do mine and not the one from California truck shop..

You have got to be kidding me! How did this guy get that thing in 40min. by himself? I am not a rocket scientist and you Mike are closer to being one than me, were you can almost fly one! What the hell was his secret?

Re: Project "flip that truck or else!"

Bigger rope, WD-40 on the frame, bottom first and he had a suction cup to man-handle the glass...

Dude, he had the seal on the window in 2 minutes or less.. didn't that take us 20?

oh yeah, IT'S WHAT HE DOES!

i'm not afraid to try my own now.. I think the window frame might have gotten slightly out of square too. Along with the "tougher" seal that I had it didn't help.

Re: Project "flip that truck or else!"

I included the new seal in the price so for $725 he got a new roof installed with a new warrantied windshield... not bad since no other bosy shop would take the job...
