posted 15-17 although the best was 18.5 on the highway at a steady 60 mph. Typical around town is 15.0 when i keep foot out of it. 71 short bed 350 vortec heads quadrajet that also gets it on wide open with no bog, 700r4 trans with tcc hooked up, 3.73 gears, 27.5 inch tires, electric fan, stripped for weight, no power steering or radio, honda civic sized battery, little starter, aluminum water pump and driveshaft

Stock 305, 700r4, 3:08 gears , Rochester Quadrajet etc.

I keep my foot out of it all the time, and barely hit the gas when i accelerate. My dad thought i was joking when i told him i get 18 mpg! I only drive it in out also. cruise at 55. and i use the cruise control alot.

Re: MPG poll

Just checked the mileage on my 69 the other day with mixed driving: 13.1

If I remember right, I checked the highway only mileage with a mechanical (no clutch) fan and it was 13.5.

I'll update once the TBI swap is done

stock 350, edelbrock 1405 carb, 2.73 gears 12 bolt, sm-465, e-fan, 255/45/20s.

Re: MPG poll

This summer on my trip back from Washington to Wisconsin, I got anywhere from 15.5 to 18.8 MPG with the 250, three on the tree and a 3.73 rear, all stock setup, the only thing i did before leaving was change the plugs, coil, fluids, and advanced the timing. oh yeah and ran premium fuel and avoided that ethanol crap at all costs.

Re: MPG poll

Last tank I checked was mix of city and highway and I got 20.5mpg. Straight highway I have got 26.2mpg. Not too bad for rolling on 35" super swampers (4.10 gears). I am glad I did not go with the 572 motor when I was thinking about doing the engine swap.

Re: MPG poll

Estimated 10 mpg with 4.10 gears, 3 speed manual, 250 I6. 1/2 ton stepside. It's been 20 years since I've driven her but that's what I recall.

Once she's running again I'll be doing average mileage calculations after each fillup as I do this with my car as part of the fillup routine.

Re: MPG poll

14.5mpg as of fill up today, up from 12 when I first put the engine in, 13 when I did some tuning, and now the engine's a little more broken in after 3000 miles. It's almost daily driver level now! My '02 Silverado gets me 17-18 and that's my daily!

'68 short fleet, 350 crate engine, Edelbrock 1405, 700R4 + lockup, 3:73 posi, 29" tires.

Re: MPG poll

Yup. Just thought it could be relevant again with more overdrive swaps having been performed in the subsequent years and with fuel prices creeping back up. We all drive 50+ year old trucks. What's wrong with a 16 year old thread?

Re: MPG poll

67 Burban (2 1/2 tons of Detroit's finest) generic 350 with a T400 and 3.73's it got 12 around town and 14.5 at a steady 60 on flat ground. I voted 13 to 15. Every good story needs a bit of a stretch.
Since the upgrade to T350 and a Gearvendor I haven't done a MPG test but it seems to be the same around town (My foot is probably the biggest problem there ) and with the virus I haven't gone anywhere for a good highway test.
Old threads and old trucks seem to go together. And at my age my best days are all in the past. Uhgggg!

'72 K2500 --- 350/TH350 --- 4.10:1 Power Lok --- 285/75-16s

It used to get 12.5 but seems more like 10 now.

And in other threads Longhorn man has been coming up, so timely for this thread. Good ole Longhorn Man
