It's gonna be over 60 in Down East Maine today. I'm gonna take an Indian Chief on a date! (Not the one from the Village People, my 2012 Vintage).

Re: Body work season !

Supposed to be 83 degrees here today. I hung up my parka and turned off the heaters. It's about time. Heating bills were killing me. With the cost of firewood, propane and electric heat it's about 1K a month for 2 houses. But it sure beats freezing your azz off.

The Poppy's are blooming in the hills already. It's pleasant. I love this time of year.

Re: Body work season !

I got the bodywork itch myself. I need to make a run to pick up the fenders and doors of mine a friend has had at his place. What a mistake! It was almost ten years ago I had a bed and pair of axles he bought laying here for a year or so. Since his brother (also a friend) does great bodywork, I decided to load my fenders and doors up along with the parts he bought to "speed things up" and run it all to him. I really wanted to do all the work on this '67 project myself. Well, I'll get my wish because his brother has been through a divorce and doesn't have a place to do side work. My parts are now hard to get to, so pretty involved coordinating in advance when picking up the parts can happen. It has been way too long and I'm ready to make this happen!

The cab is on the frame and where the bed goes had a bunch of lumber stacked on it. I sold off the cherry and now the bedsides & floor supports are only laying on 2 sheets of solid core maple finish plywood. Anytime now I'll be hauling that plywood down to a friend I gave it to so I can assemble the bed in place. With the bed assembled I can pile it's parts in it. I just want all the pieces to sit on one footprint at this point. Before assembling the front end I'd like to drop the engine and transmission in place. That way I can have the driveshaft and exhaust made. I want all the parts sitting on 4 wheels! I probably won't actually go deep into this project until after selling the house and in the next place, so making it easier to move is the goal. It will all come apart again.

Sebago Lake is beautiful. I'm 4 1/2 hours NE of there. Canada is east of me across an inlet. Only neighbor I can see is in New Brunswick, Canada. Down the road a piece from me is the furthest east golf course in the USA.

Yeah, they are hardly in Maine. I figured you were way on up since you said "ancestral home" in another post and going by your user name. Maine is a great place. They're along an old pond impound. It's former logging land and wasn't very expensive. They built a shop with the home at one end. Wood furnace heats the floor, so walk straight out from the house in your socks in the dead of winter. He has more money than me . Has a great set-up

Re: Body work season !

Yes, my maternal family is Micmac Indians. I burn wood, use propane and heat pumps. I want as many ways to stay warm as possible if the doodoo hit's the fan. I have a Generac that acts like I'm still hooked to the grid the power goes out. Too my way of thinking that is a necessity here, not a yard ornament. I use all three heat sources because you can never tell what Mother Nature is up to. One day in February it was very close to -45 F here. The salt water has been known to freeze over behind my house during low tide. It ain't for everyone, but I'm good with it. Less than a million people live here and most of em are in Portland 5 hours away.

Re: Body work season !

You don't see losers heading north to find the end of their road. Maine is where people who take pride in taking care of themselves go.

I dragged the bedsides and floor supports bundle off the back of the truck, cut what I need off the birch plywood, and called the friend I promised the rest of the birch to confirm it's ok to load it up and drop it off. I'm going to lay the bedsides back up on the frame and begin working on them as on a bench. I guess it's time to come up with the wood for the bed floor and run that off. Now I really want to make the journey to connect with the doors and fenders. Phone call time!!
