Today I was using my hydraulic flaring tool to do some push connect fittings for the F150 and started thinking about about how little I've used it. It's a great tool but for how much it's been used I could have bought a bunch of other more boring tools that would have gotten alot more use.

So, what tools have you bought that worked really well but you really didn't need at the time?

money waisted on a tool?
I can't imagine thinking that. I have tools I got over a year ago that I have only used once, and some I have yet to even use... but I know they'll be there when needed, and I KNOW I'll need them.

The closes thing to money waisted on a tool is the lock plate deal I got to do the timing belt job on the x's DOHC Contour. Even then, it was like 12 bucks off the snap on guy, and it made the job 10 times easier, so even if I have yet to use it again (got it in winter '03) it was worth it.

As I've said before, not matter what the cost, if I only use it once the tool itself is paid for, can't recall how many times I've fixed things the hillbilly way 'cuz I didn't have the proper tool.

i got a balljoint fork remove tool (tierod remover ) or what ever its call to do a job on an 86 toyta pickup replacing the ideler arm i've used that tool5 times on different projects.

yeah I've got em to. I even had them for sale at yardsales and still have most of them. People who do that work already have them
I think the only tool that i have that works good and kinda wasted my money on is a pneumatic drill. Its so much easier to use cordless than to fire up the compressor just to use one. I will still use it at times but rarely.

i bought a $400 something Dent Fix Spotweld Drill more than a year ago. three weeks later i quit the body shop and moved to paint sales and havent used it since.

LMAO I have garage full of tools I have only used a few times. Sometimes I think I buy the tools so other people can use them. Seems that here lately my WELDER, TRAILER and LIFT are real popular.

not auto related but A tile saw, I've got one more room to
finish, then I'm giving it away, to many people borrow it, I have to show
them how to use it, and when ever I'm ready to use it, its not here.

2 sets of metric obstruction wrenches and 1 set of metric stubby wrenches, all snap-on. I use the stubbies quite a bit but have yet to use any of the obstruction wrenches. Don't regret buyin em though. They look real good in my tool box.

My coolest rarely used tool is a snap-on pneumatic gasket scraper. Cuts through any gasket/goop quick. Does a number on aluminum heads too if you are not carefull.

Actually it's the NAPA branded version of the same thing, it works great and I never would get rid of it because I broke two cheapo flaring tools just before I bought it, as of now I've only used once for the push connect fittings and I've had it for 6-7 months.

I've got a few like that that I have used once, or very few. My flaring tool, the power steering pulley thing, my exhaust pipe expanders to name a couple. But, like Krue and others mentioned. It is nice having them there (when I can find them)when I do need them.

bought a airless paint sprayer for use on a house, fence etc... All of the things that really suck to paint! Never used it for two years but I saw it today while cleaning the garage.....

I have a toon of tools I don't use very often......by choice.All those carpenter tools.But since I finally started the house remodel they might get some use for a couple of weeks.

They're nice to have when you need them though.

Bought one of those 1 pump floor jacks that raise to the vehicle in 1 pump...seemed like a great idea to me....1 pump gets it to the car, then it takes 20 pumps to lift the car, sometimes it wouldn't lift the car at all; I gave it to my son and told him to never bring it back!!! $100 bucks down the tube!! It must have had a bad by-pass valve or something, sure was frustrating though.
