Parts Transferability... Half Ton to 1-Ton

OK I realize that the Main Parts Springs, Front Differential Inards, and axles and Such aren't transferable... but What if any Parts are... Here's What I'm doing... Taking this...... my 87-88 GMC 2wd Crew Cab Dually and Converting it to a 4wd.... Its Been Suggested that I find an buy a Donor Truck... and I'm curious if I need to be looking for a 1-ton 4x4 or since I'm planning on rebuilding the front differential I can get away with a half ton or 34 ton 4x4 since I tend to be finding More of them just lying around here lol

Thanks again Ya'll

1/2, 3/4, and 1 ton leaf spring hangers are all different offsets. What brackets are you wodering about. Front leaf spring is all the same thou. My 1 ton frame was 5/8" not as high in the front motor mount section so I had to modify my motor mounts to fit. All 1/2 and 3/4 tons are the same up front thou.

Yeah the engine crossmember and motor mounts may be a little different on a 1/2 or 3/4 ton, but the leaf sprinf mounting points should be the same from 1/2 to 3/4 to 1 ton.

The 1 ton uses different spring hangers in the rear, than the 1/2 and 3/4 ton. The front are the same I think. This place is good for aftermarket hangers and such. http://diy4x.com/ You could use a 3/4 ton front and adapters for the stock wheels and leave the dually rear.

Re: Parts Transferability... Half Ton to 1-Ton

1/2 and 3/4 ton rear spring hangers are the same, 1 tons use different rear spring hangers. All front hangers are the same. 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton 4wd engine mounts/cross member will not fit in the 1 ton 2wd frame. You will have to either modify the 2wd mounts and make a cross member, or you will have to build your own engine mounts/cross member.

Re: Parts Transferability... Half Ton to 1-Ton

With the Cummins I'd go with the beefiest front diff you can get. That's a heavy engine, I wouldn't want that kind of weight up front on a half ton front axle. Most of all, I definitely wouldn't want a half ton rear axle behind a Cummins. Your best bet is to get 1 ton running gear.

Re: Parts Transferability... Half Ton to 1-Ton

I've Gotta 1-ton Rear end.... the Picture of the Truck in the first post is mine.... But what I'm asking is can I Pull ALL the Internals out of say the 1/2 front end differential and Swap them out with Detroit Lockers 1 ton axles and Detroit Locker 1 ton internals...

Re: Parts Transferability... Half Ton to 1-Ton

You can't put "1 ton" i.e. dana 60 internals inside a "1/2 ton" i.e. dana 44 housing.
