Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

got way ahead of myself and tried my hand at making some side panels. definitely a learning curve here lol. bought some 1/8" board, vinyl wrap from hobby lobby, and some upholstery spray. not show perfect but I think they will be ok. using rivnuts to hold them on so I still have to cut the holes in the vinyl

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

tired of my gauges and switchbox flopping everywhere so i decided to work on the floor to get the console in. sanded it down and just brushed on a quick coat of rustoleum flat, then kilmat. my carpet came in as well but was sent the high hump so im in the process of swapping those out, but at least i can get to work on the console while i wait for the carpet

Can't wait to see the finished product, Are you going to mount speakers in it too?

that's the plan leon. I bought some 6.5" speakers and they look like they will work. trying to see if I can recess them some. this box is super close to the gas pedal...made it a tad too wide lol

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

rounded over the front section, still need to cut the speaker holes. also waiting on my cup holders and colored zip ties. I'm using the zip ties to color code the airlines when I pull them from the switchbox so I know what goes where when going back together.

looks like I will be stuck painting the outside of the box, and wrapping the cup holder and gauge areas with that black vinyl I used a few posts above for the rear panels.

wondering if I should spray the box with the same color as dash...or maybe a flat black? I'm leaning towards black, I don't want it to draw a lot of attention lol

Looks really good!

Are you going to glue it on? I was having problems with the upholstery on one of my cars and someone on here said not to use any spray glue except automotive vinyl top adhesive. That is what I used and I never had any more problems with it.

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

well, had to redo it because my planning didn't go so well lol. also the wrapping didn't come out as I wanted..but hey, I guess it turned out OK. the wood portion came out great, but the wrapping did not. I went ahead and wired up my radio and speakers and also ran the wiring to the future rear speakers.

thanks guys. working on getting the carpet settled in and mounting the seats back in it. hope to have it done by the weekend so I can replace my carrier bearing and take it for a cruise. here's a shot of the little $30 bluetooth radio I found on Amazon, mounted it in the glovebox. nothing special

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

sooo, been a little busy lately. got the carpet fully in, got the seats all bolted down (need to make one more point of mounting for those rear seats), also wired up and made my rear speaker mounts. also replaced the damaged carrier bearing for a beefy billet one.

i took a peak of where about i ride at with the ride height, and im not sure if this is how far the splines should be out on the slip shaft..any thoughts?

No, you should never at any time see that blue spline coating. Dana Spicer uses this coating to protect the spline from metal to metal contact and it helps extend the life of this slip joint. Also the blue coating should never be in the section of your slip yoke that has the grease zert. Right now you are way over extended on the slip.

when i raised it all the way up to full height it looked like it didnt even move. i obviously cant see if it moves when i air it all the way out unless i had a lift to put it on. is my driveshaft too short? I had it custom made based on the measurements the driveshaft guy had me do

It's way too short. I used Denny's Driveshaft to build my race truck shaft and its perfect. See attached pdf on how they recommend measuring for a driveshaft.

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

yup, I checked out Dennys before getting mine made. probably should of went that route lol. I think I will call the guy up and explain I need it lengthened a few inches now. hopefully he won't charge too much.

should I add just enough to cover ALL the splines, or about half way..or?

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

It's hard to tell because I have no idea what components were used to make up this shaft. When I was building drivelines, we always built them, so the installed length was at mid-slip. Let's say you had a 4-inch slip, we would have it set up 2 inches each side. That way the shaft had equal travel when pushing into or pulling out of the slip yoke.
With the driveline in right now I would measure from center of ujoint cap to center of ujoint cap. This would give you the installed length. And tell your driveline shop this is the installed length, and you want it at mid-slip.
