Re: Fade to Black 71

So the old man was able to get more work done on the core support today, as well as working on the front bumper and taking the hood to the painter for some prep work. Here are a few pics of the hood to begin with.

When he started the front bumper he said it was going pretty easy with the DA sander, and after about 15 minutes with that he said he got into some extremely hard paint. So he went and bought some paint stripper and went that route. Said it was still a royal PITA so he left the rest for the painter to finish.

The core support came out looking real nice, he is very pleased with the results. I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking.

Re: Fade to Black 71

Had some time this weekend and got a little done. Luckily, the old man has tomorrow off as well so he plans on getting more done. We picked up a set of Patriot shorty headers that I think will work well. Dad didn't like the paint on them so he blasted them and put some high temp paint on them until we can send them off to be ceramic coated.

He also yanked the motor out so he could prep the frame and all the front end components for some rust encapsulator then some chassis black. With the motor out we will try and get all the brake lines run before we stab it back in.

He also did a little fix on the core support brackets that were a little mangled.

Theres nothing wrong with that support for the rad. It is better than the orignal one.

Re: Fade to Black 71

Made a little more progress today, got one of the sides torn down up front so we started doing a little rust removal. The old man didn't feel like doing any blasting, grinding or wire brushing so he went with the muriatic acid approach. All in all everything turned out rather nicely at a fraction of the time it would have taken with the other methods.

Once he had everything cleaned up he sprayed them with a little rust encapsulator to keep them from rusting once again. We plan on painting the calipers with some gun metal gray caliper paint but if we can't find any in that color we will stick to black.

He also welded on the new filler piece for the other core support bracket.

He is slowly making progress, as long as he keeps trucking along he will have the frame buttoned up in no time.

Re: Fade to Black 71

More progress up front. Almost to the point where we can start spraying some extreme chassis black, right now everything is just rust encapsulated.

Hopefully tomorrow he is able to get the drivers side all buttoned up, then we can move onto the next phase.

My mom always had the best advice. It was just a tad late. After a fall that involved blood, she'd say....."Careful!"

Re: Fade to Black 71

Still moving forward in the right direction...Dad picked up the front bumper and the hood from the painter this past week and they turned out good, he is slowly but surely getting all the pieces ready for paint. He was also able to get the doors cleaned up and disassembled ready for body work. The PO used some fancy stickers to cover holes from the original mirrors which we thought was pretty comical.

Re: Fade to Black 71

So my dad got around to putting the extreme chassis black on the frame as well as cleaning up the cab a bit. He still has some to do on the cab but he is making progress slowly but surely. Here are a few pictures of the process.

Re: Fade to Black 71

The cab is finally all stripped down ready to get some real work done to it, now it's just a waiting game for the body shop. So in the meantime we plan on getting all the motor pieces off to powder coat sometime, re-install the motor, run all the brake lines as well as fuel lines and polish the gas tank. So hopefully here before long we will have a rolling chassis again.

My dads brother decided to stop by in his 67 Caprice, pretty sweet ride.

Re: Fade to Black 71

A little more progress made with the body work. Dad just picked up the doors from the body shop, and we also received our new center console in the mail. We love the way it looks, however we are going to need to make a filler panel to extend all the way to rear of the cab.
