Kilmat and Carpet Question.
I bought new ACC Mass Backed carpet for my 72 C10 and thinking about using Kilmat with it and looking to se if anyone has done this with their truck. Is using the Kilmatt/Dynomatt with the mass back carpet overkill ?

Re: Kilmat and Carpet Question.
I’m over on the 73-87 side of the forum, but to answer that question, it’s not overkill at all.
I used FatMat. Reused the factory tar mat. THEN put a layer of jute backed foil down. THEN I had the mass backed carpet. Best thing I ever did.

Re: Kilmat and Carpet Question.
The killMat won’t be overkill. You don’t need 100% coverage with the killMat either. It helps reduce resonance.

Re: Kilmat and Carpet Question.
Thanks, I guess I'll order the KillMattt then. So anyone know how many square feet I need to do floor, inside of doors, and corners and back of cab as my tank is out and have carpet for it too.

Re: Kilmat and Carpet Question.
Kill mat looks nice, I used closed cell foam. not sure where to get it now.....at least a 100 Sq ft, depends how far up the firewall you want to go. And also around the back of the cab etc without in cab tank. Doubled up in the foot wells, This was over Rattle trap/ Fatman

Re: Kilmat and Carpet Question.
Pic of my 68 with Dyna Mat "like" stuff and then DEI foil front and back jute insulation.
Then new carpet. No heat or noise. |

Re: Kilmat and Carpet Question.
I did both, stick on dynomat and mass backed vinyl carpeting. The only issue was that the ACC carpets are barely molded to the floor pan and the vinyl backing makes it stiffer.
In my opinion, the reduced resonance from the stick on stuff really compliments the frequency blocking from the heavy carpet. The back of the cab really benefits. |

Re: Kilmat and Carpet Question.
KilMAT does make a noticeable reduction in road noise.
I made a video detailing KilMAT in a '71 C20. Check it out, there are some usable tips. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2sf8R7gt50 I also recommend a layer of Siless insulation over the KilMAT. The temperatures in the truck have been much cooler since. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsXCO81tBaM

Re: Kilmat and Carpet Question.
I don't have a pic but I used ACC carpet. Just the firewall and under the seats. Then since I put the gas tank under the bed I looked at the ACC carpet piece the would cover the stock gas tank. I thought it was stupid expensive. I bought some black trunk liner. Was about $20. Cut it to fit and glued it in place. Turned our great.

Re: Kilmat and Carpet Question.
Do products like KilMAT need to have a squeaky clean surface to be properly applied and stick well?

Re: Kilmat and Carpet Question.
I would wash the metal with something like Dawn or any good cleaner to get rid of any silicone/grease. On the Dyna Mat like stuff I used is super sticky. The only way its coming up is with putty knife and a lot of elbow grease.

Re: Kilmat and Carpet Question.
This is good to know. I had planned to POR15 the floor on another project prior to installing the KilMAT, or similar product. Being able to skip the POR15 will save a LOT of time.
