Tom won't make it, still a ways out. I'm in sanding the old paint off and some bodywork stage. I plan to paint myself because of the cost. I did put a fuel tank skid plate on, it didn't have one to start with but I had it so.. think it needs one.

Thanks, Jim, I moved it out and dusted it off. I was bored and don't have a bunch of dollars for chrome plating interior pieces so for now I painted it (chrome) yes I know but I had to know how it would turn out.

Very small update: bodywork stuff so it takes me a long time. I did get epoxy on.

I started setting some trim pieces in place, all the original holes were welded so should drill new holes or try the adhesive clips? I have read some stuff about the stick-on kind but has anyone had luck with them?

I have been working on my wing windows. I'm pleased with how it went with the new seals.

All the new vehicle trim is affixed with tape. I don't think you need worry. What's the worst that could happen? If it comes loose, then drill. I think you'll be fine.

I think the 3m VHB double sided tape is what you need. Have you restored any trim? Any ideas how to get dents out etc....

That anodized aluminum trim is a huge PITA to restore. It get cloudy with exposure, dent and scratches easily. About the only restoration you can do with them is apply new woodgrain tape to them and repaint the black if they are otherwise nice. I have seen guys strip the anodizing off, then polish the aluminum to a high shine. Without the anodizing in place, the trim will dull easily just with the ambient humidity.

Fortunately, there are a lot of NOS trim out there for most of the sections. The hardest ones are the Blazer specific forward quarter panel pieces.

Mar-K makes good repro trim if you can't locate NOS.

As for the retention of these, I would stick with the OEM steel clips, either the threaded or push in variety depending on location. Some locations on the trim used the plastic adhesive clips, mostly in the middle of the longer side trim such as the door and quarter panel pieces.

Thanks Tom, I was thinking the stick on would be easier to work with but didn't want it to fall off driving.

Notsolo, I haven't tried to restore trim pieces just using driver quality stuff the repo stuff is expensive.

1970 thanks my concern was drilling holes and the trim not lining up.

Well, I've been putting off the door repairs, finished welding the cracked hinge area and the screw holes I will get the filler going.

Looks great! I wish I was better at body work. I would have saved myself a fortune.
I read about your dilemma on the side trim. I went to ebay and purchased extra plastic adhesive pieces, and I ordered some more small black screws that match the original screws. I plan on going the adhesive tape/screw route at this point.

Although, since you are still in body work, you could make some Cardboard or Construction paper templates of the trim with the holes marked on the paper & drill them like that? They would be easy to tape to the body & line up.
