I'm thinken your only option is on the floor at the back doors. Just like the p/u truck guys are doing. Just make sure it's vented outside and not through the cap.

--Filler cap In the wheel well would probably be too tight for the filler nozzle
--Filler cap Behind the license plate at the back bumper is a pretty good idea but too low for the gas tank to receive fuel, or the tank would have to be lower than the bumper. From behind we'd like to see the rear axle, not the fuel tank.
We searched high and low, including Canada and custom tank manufacturers for a gas tank for my 59. I spent four weeks in search talking with everyone who would listen. We thought we found a new one in Canada, but the company did not hear that we said "Panel" and sent us a truck tank. We shipped the old tank to Indiana for resealing and lining. I did find a sending unit, which was a bolt on sender at Rock Valley, for $55. Talk to Don.

I don't think they can reseal mine.

Re: '56 Chevy Panel build (SLP)

Well got a little done today.

I didn’t want the normal 2x4 notch so I designed my own to mimic a stretched stock frame. Also I have to make a huge notch to get it down on the rockers with the 20’s.

Had a 12” and 6” x 10’ flat steel and ended up having to make each side in 2 pieces. So made a template out of 1/4” plywood and made it 1/4” smaller on all sides. Called up a friend that just got a new miller plasma cutter that he let me use. Nice friend, he hasn’t even used it yet. Man I’ve got to get a plasma cutter those things are sweet. Got home and welded the 2 together and mocked it up in the panel.

Here are the pics.

Re: '56 Chevy Panel build (SLP)

Thanks Nate.

Short day for me so didn't want to pull the panel out. Ended up breaking down the grills and trying to decide if I want to keep the boo b's or not. Need to take out about 4" of the heavy chevy grill to fit.

rest of the day was farm work.

Re: '56 Chevy Panel build (SLP)

That will look pretty slick!

From your avy, I like the grille without the bb's, it gives it something different.

Thanks, it's getting harder to come up with ideas that people have not done before and I think this grill is something new.

Re: '56 Chevy Panel build (SLP)

Got off work early today so did a little more cutting today.

Shocked to see the insides with so much primer.

And a little jump on the frame notch.

Doesn't have to be Different.... You just have to like it in the end.
