1970 C20 8 Lug Wheel to Dually Style

I have a 70 C20 chassis for my next project. The current width, on the front, of the wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface is 65 inches. When I bolt 16x6.5 8 lug wheels to this I end up adding 7 inches to the width. Which is 72 inches from wheel edge to wheel edge. The tires will have a bit of bulge and another inch. I want to narrow this by 3 to 4 inches. My thought was to use a dually style wheel. Do you have to use a hub adapter like what come from the factory or can I use a spacer? And what size spacer? Or maybe there is different size hub extensions, or?
Thanks for any help

Ebay item to show you what the hub looks like. I don't remember having one off or apart to know what they look like on the inside though. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-hub-1...-/153658401900

I'm going to say that you need to find wheels with the correct offset and forget cobbling the dually front hubs on the 3/4 ton spindles that won't get you where you want to be anyhow.

Re: 1970 C20 8 Lug Wheel to Dually Style

Reading another post on the forum it seems I have a late 70 frame which is wider by 1.5 inches. I wonder if the frame is narrower or the control arms are shorter on 69 and earlier

The frame is the same width. The rear end is wider by 3/4" on each axle tube and axle on each side, on the later trucks. I am not sure where the extra width is added on the front, maybe the spindles. Do you have disk brakes in the front?

Now I am not an expert on this stuff so hopefully another member will chime in on this, but If you have drums all the way around I think you will have the narrower tread width. The trucks with the front disks are wider. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.....

Re: 1970 C20 8 Lug Wheel to Dually Style

Keeping this thread alive. I've searched all over for an example of how a dually type front-wheel fits on a 3/4ton.

I am having front tire rubbing issues after lowering and looking for ways to narrow the tire track a bit.

Dually rims on the front fit on over what is essentially an attached spacer to a 3/4 ton front hub and drum set up. No magic at all. Disc brake duallies have their own front rotor specific to a dually with the spacer cast in.

My question is, will the dually front rotor fit on the 3/4 ton disk spindles/hubs without modification? I haven't done any searching on this but I thought I would ask as long as this thread came back up.

I only have a 73-87 front disc set up to compare to but I'd bet no. The 67-70 stuff is basically 3/4 ton from what I can see. The true one ton disc stuff is monumentally more robust.

Nope, thickness of the rotor and brake offset is a little different. Plus the mounting of the caliper itself

OK, Thanks guys. I will go over to the salvage yard and get the '73 up stuff then.
