Re: Lets see the survivor trucks! original paint only!

Heres a couple of mine. The light blue 68 is about 90% original paint. It was a original 283-p-glide, ps, power drum truck in July Stock with hubcaps The dark blue 68 i bought from original owner in about 2000. Sold it to my buddy in 2001 and just got it back last year. Its had 1 rocker and 1 repaint. The blue 71 is all original texas truck i have had for about 3 years. It was going to get a PB facelift?? But thats before i got the light blue 68. They will all get bagged for sure. And my favorite for about the last 4 years. Krusty my 67 stepside. I have a couple trucks to sell before i can focus on the blue ones.
I love original paint and patina trucks and cars !!!!!

One I just recently finished for a customer.

Mostly original paint. Some blending on the cab.

Re: Lets see the survivor trucks! original paint only!

Here's an 87,000 mile '71 Custom Deluxe survivor I picked up back in spring. The original paint still shows well and has nice patina. I had a new seat cover made and added carpet after being unable to find an original beige mat for the interior. Who has some gorgeous takeoff 3/4 ton hubcaps they'd like to part with?! I've asked a ton of questions about this truck on the board, so thanks to everyone for their help. Jeff

Bench seat: Very NICE! Similar to my original. Did you buy the insert material from SMS?? You could have bought a replacement mat (black) and painted it with vinyl paint to get beige.

Re: Lets see the survivor trucks! original paint only!

Thanks, yes insert material is from SMS. CARSInc had the rest of the material and completed the cover for me. I'm very happy with it and the insert from SMS is about dead nuts perfect compared to my original cover. I tossed around possibly dyeing a mat, but was worried about wear through. I figure carpet is easy enough to replace if I ever sold the truck to a purist who wants the mat back in there.

Here's mine. My grandfather bought it new back in '70. I have no plans to repaint it, just popping out some of the dents (I hope).

I recieved a sample from SMS and it doesn't have the gold flake the original had on the fabric pattern. Theirs seemed darker in color also. I have pics of both in my thread.

Re: Lets see the survivor trucks! original paint only!

I understand completely. The first sample I received from SMS was off a bit too. After searching and coming up with dead ends, I ordered another sample several months later and it was MUCH better. I feel like SMS's is just a hair darker, but could that have anything to do with overall fade in our covers?

I had a chance to check out your thread, terrific restoration! I found the pages without the seat and then the ones with you cleaning it, but couldn't find the photos of the samples. Do you know what page they're on?

My understanding is SMS is buying this fabric and not overseeing the actual production of it, so variances occur with different lots of fabric. Maybe call for another sample?

From 3-5 feet away, the two fabrics look the same. It's only until you stick your nose up to it that any variance is noticeable to me. Hope this helps a bit.

Jeff

Thanks for the kind workd The seat pics are on page 3, posts 60 to 63 I think. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=473575&page=3 In one shot you can see the gold flake where I pushed up on the seat to expose the original fabric. Not so much fading I would think, since mine has been covered most all its life. I'd think SMS's should be closer to a parchment color like mine, not darker.
