Re: '72 Frame Up Rebuild

OK, the seats that I have in there are 13" from the floor to the seat, so it's only one inch different if we are measuring from the same place.

Sure seems higher than one inch....but I haven't sat in it for a year either so that might be what it is.

I really don't like the look though...sigh.....

I picked those seats because they have the built in shoulder harness but they just look goofy ......but that might grow on me....we'll see.

In the meantime I'm looking for some other seats.

Drove it 4 miles today....first time I've driven it in over a year and it was GREAT!! Got it up to 55mph and was turning right at 2300 rpms so it should be just fine for what I intend to use it for right now.

Valves need to be adjusted and the front main seal is leaking so that stuff needs to be fixed....it's always something. It's a brand new rebuild with only 18 miles on it.

Grill should be going in tomorrow and back to the dyno to burn another chip, this one is running a little rich but I think I need to get the valves tightened up before I get another program burnt.

And I need to figure out a steering wheel. I'm thinking 14" diameter and something that will allow me to see the gauges....so I'm still looking.

Anyway, here are some progress pics.

Dual electric fans.....I LOVE electric fans. I have them on my Ford and my Jeep....make that low end idle a lot smoother and keeps it cool on the hottest days.

Pics of the seats and gauge cluster (with tilt steering wheel)......and the Blazer as it sits today.

I think the seats look good. What are you doing for a center console? Have ya tried the rti ramp yet?

12" from the little hump to the very center front. Also... Im agreeing with you on the seats... OK, they just dont look like they belong. My buddy put some nice offroad seats (Corbeau Baja Ultras I beleive) in his and they look great and are darn comfortable. You could then attach your shoulder harness to the roll bar.

I'm missing one of the body bushings so I haven't tried the ramp yet....but I will!

I'll take a look but the "offroad seats" that I looked at are solid mount so there is no option to slide forward or tilt to allow access to the back.

I'm trying to find some mid 90's seats to look at.

The seats I have installed are VERY comfortable....they just look goofy to me.

If you are measuring from the "hump" then my seats are the same distance from the floor because that hump is 1".

PRP makes sliders and I think even tilt bases for their seats. Which are really nice.

Re: '72 Frame Up Rebuild

OK...milestone time......

Took the Blazer on it's maiden voyage over the weekend.

Put 250 miles on it and I wish it was summer!

Ran great, only one little hiccup when a plug wire came off but other than that it's everything I have been waiting for and then some.

The FlowMaster 40's are still louder than I like but it sounds really cool when it's loping at idle....so not sure what to do there yet....

Running a little rich but I prefer that for break in I suppose....so I'll run it a little more and get it leaned out.

It made 285 horses at the wheels with 340 pounds of torque.

A long way from my DuraMax but I'm happy with it and it will get better as it loosens up.

Now....bumpers, winch, sliders, interior.....still lots to do but next summer is gonna take to long to get here....

Some photos I took of it all cleaned up.

I'm SO happy!!!!

Re: '72 Frame Up Rebuild

Hey scoyote awesome looking build. I have a 72 K5 that ia amgoing to start the same thing on in the New Year. One question for you. When you did the frame and axles in por15 did you brush and roll or spray? How does it lay down? If done by brush and roller can you tell by looking at it. Again great looking rig. Mine is factory Ochre but you got me thinking about the orange now.

Re: '72 Frame Up Rebuild

I brushed mine on and yes, you can tell it if you look at it hard, there are brush strokes and a few drips here and there.

I didn't try to roll it mainly because of all the nooks and crannys but the frame itself probably could be rolled....didn't think about trying that.

That stuff is exactly what they say it is though.....if you get any in the grooves on the lid you won't get the lid off again.

Really tough finish and shiny.

I would absolutely recommend that product to anyone.

Re: '72 Frame Up Rebuild

VERY nice Blazer!
I agree with you on the seats- they just don't look quite right.
For my taste they are just too modern looking, when everything is 1972 and the seats are 2005 they sorta stick out. Love everything else tho...

Re: '72 Frame Up Rebuild

My "build" wasn't trying to retain the 1972 as stock by any means so the seats seemed like a good upgrade and for awhile I didn't like them but I gotta tell you....they are SOOOOO comfortable that I'm loving them now!

We used 1" square tubes and "tabbed them" to accept the seat tracks from the new seats. We added tabs to use the stock mounting holes too.

I really don't have a good photo but I'm going to be pulling them out pretty soon to complete the carpet and if I remember I will take a photo of the bottoms.

Once you get some 1" square tube you will pretty much figure it out I bet.

Just bolt those to the new seat tracks and put tabs on to use the old holes.

Here is a photo from page 4 of the build.

It kinda shows what I mean.

You can see the tab welded to the top of the square tubing at the front.

Re: '72 Frame Up Rebuild

Absolutely no offense taken here, not at all man.

Originally I agreed with you but I gotta tell you...those seats are so dang comfortable that it's gonna take a lot for me to rip them out.

Yeah, the comfort would be nice and then add in the safety of the shoulder belt... I think they could grow on a person! Do you have a rear seat?

Re: '72 Frame Up Rebuild

Finally got my Softopper installed.

I'll get more detailed photos online later but here is what it looks like.

Pretty easy install.....directions are vague but you can figure it out if I can.

About 2-3 beers and a couple of hours....done deal ;-)

I used the header bar instead of drilling 17 snaps I only had to drill 5 and it holds just fine.

It's a good product....very well built in my opinion and it comes complete with gasket at the windshield to keep the wind from whistling through the snaps.

The material is the same stuff they use for the new Jeep tops so it's a quality material... and no snaps on the tailgate, that is a velcro attachment.

Even comes with a seam sealer to take care of the seams....pretty cool.

I'm happy with the product....and glad I don't have to lift that dang hard top off anymore!

Now...c'mon summer!!!!

Did you say "summer" or "bumper"???

Looks like you need a little of each!

That top DOES look really nice.....thank goodness we finally have a vendor for those again. It's been a long dry spell with nothing being offered.

Re: '72 Frame Up Rebuild

Bumpers....yea....need bumpers too ;-)

And the interior isn't finished yet.

And I want to put rock sliders on there.

And I want to put a winch under the front (kinda hidden)

And I need front and rear lockers.

And I need..........it never quits does it ;-)
