Drilling a hole in instrument lends
I also put this over in "Detailing". How do you drill a hole in the instrument lends without cracking the lends? I have a new lends for my dash but need to drill a hole for the clock.

I have done so using a scribe (scratch awl)...hold the back side of the lens, push and twist to create the pilot dimple. Start with a small bit, drill slow until the drill finds the groove.

I would place the lens on a solid surface with an old soft towel under it and either scribe it like Jeff said or heat up the tip of the scratch awl a tad to melt it some. If you use a drill bit make sure you go at a very low speed but that is the least favorable route to do this

Just want to throw out there that mine has a rubber grommet on the lens that the clock adjustment rod comes through. May want to oversize the hole a little to accommodate that.
