Underneath the carpet, ideas?

My C30 is a Cheyenne Super. I have new correct carpet for it but Im unsure if Ill end up keeping the carpet. I've had the full size rubber mats in my last four K trucks and love them, but none were the fancy Super versions.

I want to try the carpet but I dont want anything permanent underneath it yet. Just run them over the steal floor, or do you have a suggestion for something I can pick up locally maybe at a hardware store or something? Something that will cut the sound and heat just a bit, but not sticky =)

Re: Underneath the carpet, ideas?

Try big box home 'improvement' place. Recycled rubber or such carpet underlayment...

Re: Underneath the carpet, ideas?

I used closed cell foam on top of dyna mat.....Closed cell foam has foil on both sides....it's not bubble, about 5/16 thick, it came in 4ft roll. Seller was "Lobuckrod "...no longer on business.

Re: Underneath the carpet, ideas?

I’d recommend the original style asphalt foam backed underlayment. Not fancy but it fits and is removable. My sets came from Wes at Classic Heartbeat and are US made.

Re: Underneath the carpet, ideas?

I undercoat the cab with Body Shutz which also cuts down the vibration caused sounds significantly. Then I just use mass backed carpet. Nothing glued to the cab floor. Works great.

Re: Underneath the carpet, ideas?

Most carpets come with Jute padding (mass backed EDIT ???). If yours did not, you can substitute it for Duct Insulation, otherwise branded as Duct Wrap. Don't get the self adhesive kind in case you want to remove it soon. I would prefer the Jute, but it is not often found in the local stores. I would also add the original style asphalt foam backed underlayment that Deadhead mentioned.

Adding a nice set of floor mats will improve how well you like the carpet and it will add a bit more sound and heat insulation.

Re: Underneath the carpet, ideas?

Jute padding and mass backed are two different things. Usually, carpet kits are available with or without mass backing. Mass backing adds significant weight and stiffness.

Re: Underneath the carpet, ideas?

I sprayed lizard skin sound deadener and heat insulation. I wanted something paint - like to seal the floor and now absorb moisture. Then I just put carpet over it.

Pain in the ass to mask off and spray it but it came out nice and appears to have quieted down the cab.

Re: Underneath the carpet, ideas?

Using Lizard Skin, which I love btw, and anything else that has any kind of permanence or sticky backing is 100 percent out of the question like I mentioned in the opening.

When (if) I get to that point on this truck I will be using Lizard Skin, but for now I have seen some interesting ideas that are on point and Ill be looking in to them.

Thanks fellas ...

Go to Home Depot and buy a roll of padding for carpet. It's cheap and it easy to cut and just lay it under the carpet. The carpet you have should have the jute padding on it. This will keep the heat in better and sound and your feet will love it.

I went to Home Depot a while back. They have a nice anti fatigue diamond plate pattern mat for less than $20.00. I bought 2 of them and put them in the Ramp truck. It made a lot of difference in the road noise. You could put this under the carpet also and it would be nice.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Underneath the carpet, ideas?

Andy, that diamond plate mat install looks real sharp! So much so, it would be a shame to cover it in carpet. maybe put the carpet under that...lol

I have to agree but if he is looking for something to hold down the noise and help hold the heat in then it would work. Another + is it is nice and soft on your feet.

Mine is not getting covered up.

Lowes has it but it's a smaller piece and cost more! I checked several different stores before I bought it. You working there maybe helpful though. The pictures of mine is just laying there not glued down at all. I did screw the door seals over top of the edges and I used velcro strips to hold the seem edges down across the hump area.
