NineteenSixtyNine GMC project

Hello, new to the site here. Just purchased a 1969 GMC 2wd, planning on a 3 to 4year build. Last couple of months i have sold off all my projects and swore to no more. As you can see that didn't last long.

My plans for my build are as follows: shorten frame from LWB to SWB, install PB dropmember, 4 link in rear, all wheel disks. I want it to lay frame.

For the body, repair all the typical rust on cab, floor, cab mounts, cab corners, rockers and whatever else might appear on tear down.

As for body mods, shaved markers, shaved doors, shaved driprail, fill in firewall, suicide doors, relocate tank and gas cap and much more.

Engine/tranny, plans are to purchase a wrecked 93-99 camero ss with a LS & 6spd

Enough talk, here are a couple of pics when i bought it. As progress continues i'll update with pics

Love the gmc noses on these trucks. I am in about the same phase as you with my truck and have a few of the same ideas for the body as you do. Best wishes on your build

Purchased a Miller 211 auto set for this build. Wow what a great machine and what a difference from my old century mig.

Another pic of the 69 with the coils removed.

Re: NineteenSixtyNine GMC project

Been movin slow on my project but came across some smokin deals. Other day on cl bought a set of 55 belair door hinges for $20, using them for my suicide doors.

It still gets better, ran across a guy selling his brand new PD dm complete with A arms, used drop spindles, calipers, rotors and a new set of SS bags front/rear.

Couple of pics, motor/tranny pulled and the PB dm

Re: NineteenSixtyNine GMC project

Alright, i guess its time for an update.................

To begin there has been a slight change of plans. Instead of my 69. im building the little ladys 70 GMC.

With all my custom mods i want to do on my 69 it wont be seeing the road for a while. The GFs 70 is gonna see the road much sooner.

ACHTUNG!!!!!!! WARNING!!!!!!! its gonna be pic heavy for the next bit........

To start, some pics of C10s ive metal/body/paint worked in the last year.

71 C20 Ocher & pure linen white

77 C10 shortbox Ghost white & speedway blue, fabbed up pop up gas caps on both bed rails

69 GMC Quazzar blue, did this one for a lady who was giving this to her husband for a retirement/christmas gift

On to my project. Picked up the 70 GMC for $450

Pics of when we got her.

Im using my 69 frame for the 70 cause it been shortened already.
Back from the sandblasters & couple coats of etch primer

Mock up Porterbuilt DM

Moved my projects to the shop at the house

Had extra cabinets left over from a basement suite i installed. Why not install the rest in the shop & get a little organized.

The start of the tear down of the 70

Fabbed some new cab mounts, & welded in some inner fishplates

Re: NineteenSixtyNine GMC project

Pics of the drivetrain
Got a smokin deal on a LT1/700R & lots of parts to go with it

Back to the rust repair.... no wait big brown boxes from AZ hmmmmm what can it be.

Mounting location for the 4 link

Waiting on a 12 bolt, mine was stolen from my backyard. Ever have the feeling to waste a scumbag.

Ok back to the rust repair, nope not yet my wheels came in after two months.
BOSS 338s 20x8.5 & 20x10

Rust repair

Before & after

Mock up cab on frame

Tear down of box. Longbox to short

Cuttin the boxsides

On the ground

Well that gets me up to today......hope thats enough pics for ya...

Re: NineteenSixtyNine GMC project

Well in need of a rear diff & looking on CL yesterday. I found what i needed at a pretty decent price.

Picked up a 12 bolt 5 lug for $80 from a 87 C10, gear ratio 3.40.

Any opinions on running this gear ratio with a 700R? I will be running a 20" wheel with tire size 295/40/20.
