Looking for a coolant recovery tank for my 69 C10. What are you using?

If you search eBay for "78-88 El Camino Chevelle Malibu Monte Carlo Radiator Overflow Bottle GM 14085692" you'll come up with one that fits like this. There's a lot of other options for the tanks, including someone selling overflow tanks in the parts forum. I'm runing the Malibu tank with a 7# radiator cap. Works fantastic!

I have a beer can zip tied to the battery tray. It's a 16oz can, so there's plenty of overflow room. If you're going for a classy restoration, I don't recommend this route.

I used a stock windshield washer tank and bracket mounted on passenger side inner fender near the battery. Mimics the look of the W/S washer tank on the driver side. Used a newer style cap for the tank with a vent port on the cap with a pick up tube inside. Can do pics tomorrow of the install and the cap both. Also will supply the GM part number of the cap I used. Works great and looks like a GM original, and the cost was minimal.

I think the beer brand would determine whether classy or not?

Not the best pic, a little grainy but should get the idea. Was an easy to mount mod and works great. The small red cap you see has a maybe 1/16'' hole in it to allow air in the tank. The white cap itself is GM part # 340194 but is a dis-continued part I believe. I bought a box of 5 years ago and have used all but one. Saving it to install a similar recovery tank on my 57 two door sedan. I used some clear vinyl tubing I got from our local farm/ranch supply store. Believe it is 5/8'' ID.

EDIT: Looked on the dreaded Evilbay and there are some caps on there but prices have gone up considerable for these thru the years. I bought the last ones our local GM dealership had July of '05 and cost was under $15 for the five of them. Seems they are now in the $20 range EACH if you can find them on Ebay. I do know they were used on the 2nd generation Camaros, the lowly Chevettes of that time, mid-70s Corvettes and Cadillacs of the same era. Might get lucky hitting a salvage yard if you still have any of those near you. Most all the yards around here don't keep anything past 10 years old. The Gubment Cash For Clunkers program sure recycled a LOT of old American Iron off the road.

Will add a pic of the remaining cap I have for clarity shortly.

My old 82 C10 came with a tiny tank under the battery box. I ended up installing this one from an 85 truck. It worked very well because it's the highest point in the cooling system and has a vented cap for air bubbles to escape. I don't think it would fit my 69's inner fender contour though.

Paid $1200; sold for $1500 a few years later. Just a hint at the appreciation that was coming. Retired as a factory automation products salesman. Worked part-time over the years for an engine builder and a classic car repair shop. Member here for 23 years! This is the very first car/truck Internet forum I joined. I still used a dial-up modem back then!
