Re: Help identify my junk
Suffix code is DE, it's a 1967 283, 195hp normally "was" for a Powerglide.

67 283's were only available with the 2 bbl carb. It was last year for the 283. Mine had a cast crank in it. My engine builder said he had never seen a cast 283 crank...hardly matters. My 283 in it's original form did not have a bolt to hold the balancer on, only the press fit held it on...when the engine was rebuilt, my engine builder sent the crank to another friends machine shop to drill and tap the crank snout for a bolt... I remember the decal on the air cleaner of my engine, stated, 195 HP... |

Re: Help identify my junk
You'd have to remove a valve cover and take a pic of the casting number and date code. But from your pic I probably make out - "Narrow triangle over rectangle c/n 520, 896, 1958 and up 283 Power Pak and 1957-'60 FI. 9.25:1 CR, 1.72" x 1.50" valves, 59cc nominal chamber volume. Could be used on a 305 but no accessory holes and has unhardened exhaust seats." - https://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/...identification

Re: Help identify my junk
Not a 67.
Could be 58 or 62. http://www.nastyz28.com/gm-chevy-cod...s-suffix-4.php And casting code says 57-66. https://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm |
