Re: Newbie with a new build thread

Here is an idea I have for a cup holder. It will attach to the firewall area, most likely to the shelf I made for the msd components. Let me know what you think. The measurements are just a guess for now. I will make it out of cardboard at first.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

Here is kinda what it would look like in the truck. I will make sure it works with the ash tray. I don't smoke, but I like somewhere to keep my change.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

We had some awsome weather here in Arkansas today and I took advantage of it and finished up some welding on the interior of my truck. I have some grinding to do now, ran out of time, had to go and pick the kiddos up. I am going to smoothe over the part where the ac controls, radio, etc... go and put things where I want them. I'm not going to use the original edsel parts in the dash. I may attemp to fabricate my own trim for it. I will let you guys know if I do.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

i really like your design of the cup holder, but one thing is how about making it swing someway, as to hide or remove it for a show or such, if you could do that i would be all over it

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

I spent the whole day today sanding my hood to bare metal and getting some por 15 on the underside. I will Prime the por 15 and then prime again with some filler primer and then paint. My fingers hurt!!!! I have sanded my prints off. I will get some pictures soon.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

that dash is turning out real slick. So if i'm looking at it correctly, it looks like you decided to not go with the wrap arounds on the door? I like what you did to extend it over and think that looks good as is.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

Thanks. You really can't see the shape of the dash in the pictures really well. the pictures make it look distorted. I may add some additional metal to the doors to give it a more "complete look. I am also going to fill the middle section where the radio and such go. I just don't think the original trim would look very good all cut up. I sold it on ebay.

Spent all day today and yesterday sanding and blocking on my hood. Its going to need a lot of work especially if I am going black! I have some pictures on my camera, but am too tired to put them up just yet. Sorry.

I also just fabbed up some brackets for the rear bags so I can get them bolted in soon. Pics coming soon to a thread near you.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

Let the bodywork begin! I am going to skim the whole intire truck starting with the hood. Why the hood? I have some more work to do on the dash and doors. I have more done than whats shown in the pictures, but I don't have any current pictures yet. Enjoy.

All the holes in the front are now welded up.

Bottom has been sanded, all rust gone and treated with a product that is similar to por 15. It will be sanded lightly and treated with the products primer, Reprimed with another primer, skimed with filler and painted a nice shiny black. I want this dude slick.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

More sanding done today. Just a little more and the top of the hood will be perfect and ready for primer! I should have found a new hood instead of using this one, but oh well. Live and learn.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

A lot more sanding today! I think the hood will be ready for primer tomorrow and then some more blocking and sanding. I have to guide coat it so I can see what i'm doing. My buddie could just go by hand, but I have to see what i'm doing.

I also got one rear bag installed, and man that is a lot of drilling! I bent some drill bits using the hole saw for the air fitting. Again, I will get some pictures later. Used the batteries from my camera for my 8 month old's toy....

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

Sprayed some primer today!!! I was told by a seasoned body man that it looked really good for someones first attemp at bodywork. There are some areas that will need some more work, but if you would have seen it before I started, man it looks good. It had a tree limb fall across the center of the hood. Look back in my thread and you can see it. Pics soon, still need batteries...

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

Worked on getting the gaps in a little better shape on the passengerside door. I had to cut a slit behind the door near the cab corner to widen the door gap a little. It looks like frankinstien now. Its ok though, I know how to use filler now.... Ok, i will hammer and dolly a little before I use it. More updates later. I did get some batteries, but they came from a store called save a bundle and they only lasted enough for two pictures. Thats what I get though.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

I have not touched this truck in forever. I was hanging around my buddies shop and got put to work. I have been laid off for too long doing nothing so my buddie decided to pay me to do some work! We are trying to get into building em from the ground up. I do have the hood in guide coat right now. I will need to block it a few more times though to go black.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

Here are a few pictures for your enjoyment. I have been working on my 48 chevy truck as well.

Had to cut the new fenders to fix the hood fender gap. Still needs some attention.
