Removing surface rust and prepping a bed floor

Bought a replacement longbed for my 72 a few weeks ago. Bed sides were already removed, and I've been spending the past few weeks removing the wheelwells and back panel. There's no part rusted through (unlike the bed on the truck now), but there's quite a bit of surface rust. Wire wheel-ing through the paint and rust to bare metal reveals quite a bit of pitting.

Currently, here's my plan. Media blast the entire bed floor (top and underside). Blow off any remaining media (most like soda) and hit as much of the visible parts with rust neutralizer. Pressure wash that off. Coat the underside. Fill in the worst pitting with Bondo, then hit the top with fill primer.

This is my first attempt at body work (beyond filling a dent with an inch-thick coat of Bondo), so I'm cautiously feeling my way through this. Any recommendations are welcome. Recommended rust neutralizer? Etching primer?

Re: Removing surface rust and prepping a bed floor

Hey from San Jose.

If you are media blasting it then you wont need to use rust neutralizer. Be careful to neutralize the soda after though as it could affect the adherence of certain paints.

Have you thought about using bedliner on it? I would blast the floor with a different media (glass, sand, etc) then shoot it with a good 2k epoxy then coat it with bedliner to hide the pitting.
