Recent Thoughts on BluePrint engines?

I've been searching this forum and there are lots of old posts about staying away from BluePrint engines but some recent ones recommending them. What are people's recent experiences? Good/bad?

Re: Recent Thoughts on BluePrint engines?

I have been having problems with my 10.8-1 with a short duration smog legal cam built 383 reverse cooled LT1. So I went to my Carb guy to get a couple of items to continue tuning.

One of the lines he said was my compression maybe to high for a old school set up. As he has had quite a few customers come by with the same issue on blue print engines. He feeling was they were designed for 93 octane, and 91 water we get won't work.

So if you go with a high static, and or dynamic compression version of there engines. This maybe a issue.

Re: Recent Thoughts on BluePrint engines?

When dealing with the static compression issue I found adding more base timing solves alot of octane headaches. I run 24 degrees of base timing and max at 36. My motor never liked vac advance but this setup has kept an iron block aluminum headed 11.5 400sb happy. Cranking psi is 195psi with 250ish cam duration. Won't work for smog guys but works for non emissions motors. I run 92 octane and only had spark knock once in the last year. It was mild enough to drive around it but could have been fixed with e85 or race gas. I hope that helps with tuning. As far as I have seen they make some pretty good cheap crate motors but have had a slightly higher install issues. If installed by a shop in the US all have been fixed. Individuals and Canadians, good luck. Just what I have seen posted. Personally I would get a local machine shop to build a copy and then they are on the hook. Just my 2 cents.
