My brother sent me this yesterday. Parked his truck underneath for scale. Pretty.

Re: Random pictures that you did not take.

Looooongfooooot, ey? Must have needed more bed for something specific, or one man's vision of a cool truck idea executed. For a truck guy that makes more sense than a little bed with a sedan cab. I saw one in the mid-70s that was done extremely well. It was a mid-70s Chevy the color that was similar but richer than Medium Olive Poly with chrome wagon wheels, 6 of them. The bed was stretched to 12' and had a single wheel tandem rear. The wheel opening body work was done nicely. It looked factory. A professionally done job. Never seen another like it. It would have been perfect for a drywall or siding contractor

Re: Random pictures that you did not take.

Long c30 would be my guess and the guy didn’t want to cut the frame . So stretch the bed .

Re: Random pictures that you did not take.

Looks like it could be the long C30 WB. Pretty goofy. Might look better and definitely would tow better without adding to the rear like that.

Thanks Stocker ...I love at old movies like that and try to figure out exactly where it is/was/filmed.

Reading the comments some one says San Fernando, one sign advertising a car dealer I can make out also says San Fernando.

I also noticed the power poles with all the old glass insulators, I had a whole collection of them when I was a kid. Think I got a couple left somewhere.

Looks like gas was 21.9 per gallon on an average.

I really enjoyed that. Lot's of free enterprise going on back then. I couldn't help but wonder what's with the space case in the Ford straddling both lanes? ROAD HOG!

I wondered the same thing but came to the conclusion it was running interference for the camera car. No flashers or sign trucks back then I'm assuming.

That must be it. That would explain why no horn honking or fist waving was going on, because they saw the camera car. I was disappointed they cut that first clip just as that cool late-30s Chevy was coming better into sight. Might have been an early mild custom. Cool stuff to watch! Lots of Chevys. Great film quality

I don't think I saw any vehicles newer than 49/50. A bit earlier than the title

Re: Random pictures that you did not take.

That 4wd is sitting mighty low! Are they trying to haul it or store it off the ground, I wonder. Poor truck.

Reminds me of an old place I was helping an old HS friend renovate. He had gathered a crew of flunkies for the general labor, such as gutting and clearing the plaster debris away. I told him he needed a dumpster but what do I know? They show up with a '78 F150 and backed it to the front porch so the debris from upstairs could slide down the tin porch roof into the truck. First of all, OUCH!, from the dropping of heavy debris one story. Didn't manage to break the back window, but down at the truck I was looking at the rear bumper on the ground. Gave me a good chuckle. Made more work for themselves a bit. Somehow this was a better idea than a dumpster

Reminds me of my BiL's father who needed grain to feed his dairy cows. 2 tons of grain in the bed of his 3/4T truck. It was sitting on the bump stops, and he stopped by the shop to get a tarp to keep the grain from blowing and spilling all over the road. I bet he drove it 5 mph all the way to his farm. smh

Got wood?

Reminds me of one time I went down to the rock crusher for $2.00 a load for 3/4 minus rock and the front end loader guy loaded me all the way up and it ran over the sides and tailgate.. This was my 65 Chevy short /wide bed 1/2 ton and I drove it slow up a long hill ( 3 miles)to home and made it with out splitting my rims ... .. I have no idea what that load of rock weighed ,, any one know by my deminsions of the bed I stated ?

Now you reminded me of a tale I have. I was 19 working for a home improvement contractor. The boss sent me to the quarry for 57s (same stones as Larry) in his big fat almost new Ranchero "floaty ride". Makes sense, right? I mean it did have factory air shocks after all. I told him "go light" and "just a corner in the bucket". But I'm sure the loader guy at a quarry takes pleasure in overloading little light duty four wheelers for entertainment and a story to tell at the bar. I was only 19 and I knew it wasn't a good idea. Had a hard time creeping back to the job trying to see over that huge hood out front.

I couldn't say, Larry, but your story reminded me of the time I drove over the mountain (about an hour) to get a load of topsoil. The guy running the loader says there ya go, I said no, add some more -- 2 or 3 times. Finally got the K20 as full as it could be. The steering was light, the brakes marginal, and the trip home was slower. Went to the county scales and it weighed 11,300 pounds. After I shoveled out the dirt, I went back and weighed it again. 5300 pounds. It had an even 3 tons in it. Never again.
