I'm going to blow up my garage
Might as well because I can't find anything.
I need a steering wheel puller and I have one. I have no idea where it is. Can't find it. My flatbed needs a radio. I have a nice one but it seems to have become invisible as well. I spent an hour looking for it. I'm sure the neighbors appreciated me yelling obscenities. It is just so frustrating knowing that you have these things and can't find them. Don't even get me started with the 10mm socket.

I know how you can find it.
Just buy another one and then it will show up

Were you talking to yourself, Paul? After my third round of looking 'everywhere' I usually do.

Re: I'm going to blow up my garage
I know where my stuff is because I am a ridiculous fanatic about it. For people whose brain doesn't work that way is seems exhausting, but it is actually quite the opposite. I can't have my tools untidy. There are times during my workday where I have to stop and put things away. Some days you just get those "hundred tools" jobs. You may not need them for very long, but there are dozens of things just laying around....nope, can't have it.
My 10mm socket is a particularly bad story. In general, I don't loan tools. I even have a sticker inside the lid of my main box that says "Need a tool, GO Buy It". I let a guy from work borrow it one night, when he was staying late to fix his car. He ended up taking it home, mixed in his stuff, when he finished. After a couple of days of forgetting to bring it back, it got stolen. Well, the car got stolen...and my socket was in it. I had already bought a spare, can't be without, and it would have been an extra when the other came back. Since it never did, now I have a mismatch, because of course the one that is gone was from a set.

Re: I'm going to blow up my garage
I'm anal about my tools as well. They get cleaned and returned to their place. My drawers are organized. I do this because I hate looking for something when I need it. I need to just grab what I need when I need it. But that can't always happen. Usually when I can't find a tool it's as I'm using it. The work isn't always just in one place or I am multitasking, set it down, and it disappears.
Parts I know I have, walk past when not needing, then can't find when I go to get it. That drives me crazy. I'll have the part, like a radio, pictured sitting in a certain place. I'll get tools out all ready to install, then it's, "Oh radio... Where did you go? It's finally your time to jump into this dashboard. C'mon, play nice!"

Re: I'm going to blow up my garage
i have a garage ghost. the guy who owned our house built it in the 50s and ran a gas station near downtown. this was in the 50s when a gas station was a repair shop and not a freezoni seller.
anyway I have had several instances where George (his name) has taken things I was working on and took them wherever, only to return them in their original place days/weeks later. notably: my adopted son (a daughters ex who just kinda stayed around) took apart some headlights to rebuild the housings and per my instructions put the hardware in the top drawer of my toolbox. an hour later for reassembly the hardware was GONE, even though I watched him put it there. we looked around and just moved on to something else, and a week later i needed a tap from that drawer and there were all the hardware bits. right where he put them. i was rebuilding the brake pedal switches on an s10 with cruise control, there was a special bracket that pushes the brake lights switch. missing, gone nowhere. the next day I went out and it was laying on TOP of the parts I had bought after i saw it was missing. I always title my trucks before working on them to counter any issues i may have. i put the tag on the back of my toolbox. test drive time, no tag. look a couple days and just drive without one, i have the registration after all and no one really bothers old trucks anyway. sell the truck a few weeks later and the next day there is the tag in the back of my toolbox. He has done other stuff like walking up the stairs at night, or rattling around in the old falling-down addition that was his den, most of that stopped when we tore it down and made a new addition. maybe you have a George.

Re: I'm going to blow up my garage
Part of my problem is that I never 100% unpacked when I moved. I have stacks of boxes of stuff that I need to go through. And I live in 3 houses. I don't know what is where. It would take me a month to organize all this junk. And I still have some heavy stuff at my other 2 houses in So Cal. I don't want to drive 200 miles down there to get it and deal with my relatives running their mouths. I don't have room for that stuff anyway.

Re: I'm going to blow up my garage
No I have a Paul. I have 2 offices and they're just as bad as my garage. I lose mail. My insurance agent calls me when I am getting late on my bill. She knows that I lost it. It's kind of a running joke. My wife told her to call me because the bill will get lost in my disorganization. I can't argue with that. She's right. It does.
I'm lucky that I live in a small town and she knows me.

Re: I'm going to blow up my garage
When my oldest son lived at the house, if I couldn't find a tool I'd go look in his tool box and there it would be!!! Now that he moved I can find anything!!! I loaned a gear puller to the neighbor across the street. He came back later and handed it to me, it was all ground up to fit his job. I said thanks and threw it in the trash right in front of him and he never borrowed a tool again!!!

Re: I'm going to blow up my garage
My wife laughs at me because of my tools and habits. When I get done with a job they get wiped down and put back. Even if I’m about to do a second job that I will need a few of them. My tool drawers are not labeled but I know what goes where. When my daughters boyfriend and his friend wanted to work on a car I told them where things were but to just leave them piled on the workbench when they were done. I also told them that it was because I know they won’t remember where to put them to it was just easier for me to do it.

Re: I'm going to blow up my garage
When I worked as a mechanic, my tools were very organized. Ain't making any money, looking for tools. I only wrench on the truck now, the other two get maintenance at the dealer, as they are under warranty. Not so organized, now. I have several dozen wood carving tools. They each have a place and are in it. I might have a handful out while carving a project, but they get put away when I'm done. They can be easily damaged if dropped or clanked together.

I just found one of these in my garage while looking for something else...Brand new. I just bought one 2 weeks ago. Oh well I have 3 Chevy trucks so I guess they're all getting the same front plate. My 71 already has this plate. That adds up to 3 ..Right? I could always put this one on my Ford just to annoy the Ford guys.

Re: I'm going to blow up my garage
I was hoping we could string together a solid week of good weather. I am going to blow out my garage, everything out back on tables. One ton to the side of the shop. Looking at the weather though its (my phone) saying good chance of rain on Wednesday. I wont have even unloaded the garage fully by that time. Weather is slowly getting better though. Hopefully by the end of July ill have it ready for fall and winter hanging out there time.

One other thing, if I can't find a socket I was just using, I walk down my driveway and then down the street to the corner and there it is!!!

Right now I'm taking a break from looking for a zip loc bag that I put all the mounting nuts and bolts in that holds the bed of my truck down. Been looking for over an hour. Was tripping over the bag a week ago..............vanished

LoL. I lost the $40 rebuild kit for my $10 Milwaukee 20 jack for several years. It was on the back of the workbench shelf. I used it and now have another jack.
