One more, I like this shot. The plan is to start the truck and move it for the first time Saturday. Brand new motor never fired.

"The top is curved and the bottom where the floor will go is straight"

I had to look at those pics several times to see it, and I still can't see the blend of straight to curved (but that bottom is dead straight and that top is definately curved). The effect is subtle......very subtle....and it's really nice. You don't like going for the easy way out, do you?????

Thank you. Ya I like challenging myself to see if my vision will turn out in reality. That part really didn't take much longer than just making it straight like factory. I think the best car modifications are the ones that don't stand out.

Re: Someone else's truck. '48 Chev

So I hooked up battery power today, all went to plan. Jumped out ac pressure switch to check if compressor would pull in and low speed on the fan would come on with the ac button pushed. The wiper motor is a bolt in electric 2 speed unit from "Classic parts" nice unit. I'm going to wire up the gauges and clean up the wiring, then that part is done.

Re: Someone else's truck. '48 Chev

Well the first start went about as good as it could go, everything is new, and its a carb. No leaks, cooling fan cycled and the alternator works. Now to build the exhaust and running boards.

Wow steel has skyrocketed 2 piece 1/8" x10"x62" checker $200 it's getting ridiculous. I got the running boards tacked in place. Last night I got the exhaust fit and welded together. still need to get hangers on it.

Not ridiculous but a flat out disaster. Recently built a metal garage for the 54 as wood was/is out of sight like 3x more!! Then price went up $4500 the day after we signed contract. Every thing made of steel will now almost unaffordable from raw stock to appliances to new cars. The latter having already disappeared from show rooms.

Yes, the price of steel has gone nuts, (what hasn't?)

Checker plate should look good.

Those running boards should help with traction........... they look heavy

keep the pics coming, it is looking great

Think steel prices may affect projects like this as i see parts going up as well. Add in the new and proposed fuel surcharges by shippers and many will not attempt nice projects like yours. Curious, did you have a fixed price contract or time and materials???

Ya to bad wages are not going up as well. I just gave an estimate on hours and told them what I built my last black truck for. I'm not to far off with parts and I will not be over by to much on hours.

Re: Someone else's truck. '48 Chev

Well My customer comes to see the truck for the first time tomorrow since November. They wanted it to be a surprise for them and there 16yo son, it's his bday. They told there son they sold the truck so he has no idea, they also have not even seen pictures since end of December. So I guess it's like the Overhaulin show only I don't have a team of professionals or a hot side kick LOL. I hope they like what I have built.
So I got the running boards all together and painted exhaust tightened up and then bolted some body panels on that have never been bolted up together, fit pretty good. I adjusted the carb a bit more 2 pumps turn key purrrrrr. Once I am done with it, more box work and wire lights and some other stuff. They will take it and get the paint and interior done.

pretty awesome for the 16 yo kid, he will be happy (if not then maybe mom and dad should buy him an old vw beetle, with a 1200cc 36 hp engine, lol).

MY brother has an old bug lol
It's funny though the truck is not for him and they say he can't drive it, so the only thing I can think of is they have a lot of memories with this truck.

Well they where super happy, they said I exceeded there expectations. YAY.
I still have a bit of work to do, box and wiring, I hope 3 weeks.

Well my list is getting shorter! Under side is done, everything cleaned, painted and tied up. I got under the hood all fastened up and looking spiffy. Pump the gas twice and bump the starter and she is purring.
